After playing for several days with my headphones on I unhooked them tonight and now get no sound at all from the GDEC unless I have the headphones plugged in. I have tried switching the speaker setting and rebooting but nothing seems to help. The only sound I can get is through the headphones.........Anyone have any ideas?

One of the terminals inside the headphone jack is still engaged, thereby maintaining the disconnect of the speaker in favor of the headphones.

First let me start by saying that service by companies is a big thing with me and the lack of service is what stops me from ever using someone's products.

I think it's right to let everyone know how awesome Fender was over my "no sound" issue. I spoke to Loren this morning and he basically told me that Fender would give me a new amp instead of wasting my time trying to fix it if there was a problem. Then I took it to my music store, Wentworth in Kelowna and after identifying the issue as being I believe a faulty headphone jack, simply stated, "give him a new one" and a couple minutes later I left the store with a new amp. No fuss, no hassle, just genuine awesome service!

So thanks to Loren for taking the time to talk to me about the issue and standing behind their product and thanks to my local store who did the same without so much as blinking an eye. Sign me as a totally happpy and loyal customer of Fender products and my local music store......

I have to give Fender the same thumb's up from back when I got my first couple of G-DEC 30s. I was playing along one night in the music room, went to change tracks and the read-out screen went black and that was that. I couldn't get a sound out of the amp no matter what I did and the screen never lit up again.

I'd had it for about a month, so ran it back to Guitar Center to talk to my boys there about the problem. Wouldn't you know it, one of the Big Wigs from Guitar Center was there at the time? I talked to J and he called Fender and Fender asked him if they had another G-DEC 30 in the store. J said, yes, they did, so Fender said, give it to him. Mister BW from headquarters said, uh-uh, that's not the way we do stuff here, but the store manager said, Dennis is a good customer, Fender said give him the new amp and that's what we're gonna do.

He did, Big Wig grumped and groused about it, but I left GC very happy with both Guitar Center and Fender. I lost all the work I'd put in that G-DEC in presets and songs, but that "failure to back up" was a lesson I only had to learn once. Should have already learned it, working with computers for years...

Loren took care of me just a short while ago when I had issues with the DVDs that came with the new amps and that issue was resolved very quickly. Call me a regular Fender happy camper!

And thanks again, Loren!

I'm a disabled 58 year old man and this is the first amplifier that I've bought in twenty years. I was waiting for the G-DEC3 amps to arrive and I bought my amp on April 1st, as soon as they came into the store. I live a 3 hour drive away from Music Depot in Sault Ste. Marie, so I usually go to town at the end of each month. I have the same 'no sound' problem with my G-DEC3 30 watt, so I will try to call Loren Howard at Fender and Jeff at the store tomorrow. If I use the headphones the speaker won't engage most of the time when the headphones are unplugged, so I've had to put the headphones in and out several times or shut down the amp and start it up again (several times). Then today the speaker cut out and I hadn't even been using the headphones, but sound did come through the headphones when I plugged them in. After an hour or so the speaker started working again.

I'm not willing to start taking the amp apart because I don't want to cause another problem or void the warranty.

The G-DEC3 works ok...other than the glitch with this headphone jack....it really needs to be fixed or replaced because I live in a seniors building and don't want to make a lot of noise, especially if I can't sleep and get up to play my guitar in the middle of the night. But I don't want to be forced to use the headphones all of the time. Essentially the amp doesn't amplify a lot of the time.

After being in contact with Scott at Cusomer Relations he put me in touch with Alan at Tech Support and he has helped to work out some of the problems I was having. But the speaker still stays disengaged when I take out the headphones...even after putting the plug in and out several times and restarting the G-DEC a few times. So I just won't be able to use the headphones until it's fixed.

I've never seen such wonderful service from any other company towards their customers. You guys are tremendous and it is very much appreciated.

Thank you!

I was writing in response to the several people that spoke of the sound just cutting in and out or stopping all together on their G-Decs. As someone else sadly indicated, I am disabled as well after being diagnosed with one of those long illnesses that you have never heard of...sigh. I moved from VA to TN in large part to getting my medical issues properly dealt with in TN. I was enamored and got such a boost while still in VA I was introduced go the G-Dec (30) and it was about as similar to jamming with others as you can get without tons of programing and then poor quality still. Fender...wow, a dream for so many, I would imagine! But, since I am in TN now the guy at the store is taking the stance that "You bought it in Virginia, you get it fixed in Virginia!" (add a nice gangster-type accent to really make it play right in your head, even though it's just for show! :-0) Does anyone have ideas about getting this thing fixed; what it is; anyone know about the Nashville Area?? You would think that this musical mecca would easily cough up a dozen shops or so if I have to go that route? Ideas welcomed! When are we seeing a G-Dec 50 with an added mini-keyboard or something for banging out notes for bass lines, and the like?? Just a thought and wish! Thank you so much for this and any suggestions. Best! rOcK and live it large! :-0<()>

First, I'd recommend calling customer service at the number Loren listed in the post above. They might be able to fix you up over the phone, worst case they will point you to someplace that will honor the warranty. Fender amps have a 5 year warranty that is honored at their service centers, so one way or another it will get fixed or replaced. The problem is that not all mom and pop stores are going to help you out. In your case it is the store, I have also run into cases where the store wants to help, but their rep back into mother fender is not helpful.

All interactions that I have had with the GDEC support team have been positive, so I am confident that you'll get it fixed one way or another.

+1 on calling Fender tech support. They are great to work with! The 5-year warranty was one of the reasons I was willing to give the G-DEC 3 a chance. I had a problem (turned out to be my understanding of how to perform a function), and tech support was fast, efficient and most of all, correct in their diagnosis and advice! Kudos to Fender for REALLY delivering customer service! That's hard to find these days.
