Here's a shot of an amp stand I had custom-made to hold multiple G-DEC amps during live performances. This stand was engineered by my son, Jess, who is a superb designer and welder. I told him I needed a stand that would support at least two small Fender amps vertically starting at eye level - he came up with a stand that held three. The stand's vertical sections slide together and each folds in half to make the whole thing portable. He made the removable brackets for the shelves and I made the actual shelves with holes to accommodate the amp feet, holding them secure.

This shot was taken in the basement studio when I had everything set up for practice. The stand is holding two G-DECs on the top two shelves and the bottom shelf is holding a Fender Super Champ XD. I found that it was generally easier to switch songs using the selector knob rather than the four-button footswitch, especially when jumping between two or more G-DECs. That's why I wanted the top amp at eye level, very handy and easy to see.

I've hauled this thing to lots of gigs and it's a whole lot handier than using your standard amp stands and arranging them around you. Everything is right there in front of your face. I ran cables from both amps' L & R Line Outs to the mixer and panned stereo out to the mains, keeping at least two G-DECs online at all times. Happily, this stand has no trouble with the new 3 Thirty amps (they're about 3/4 " taller), so I am looking forward to having everything on the one stand next time the ROCK HOUNDS play out.

I'm about as hooked on G-DECs as a guy can get. In fact, I took a picture of all the G-DEC 30 amps that I currently own. You might notice labels on most of them above the input jack - that's so I can keep track of which songs are in which G-DEC, limited memory...

I'll never part with all of my G-DEC 30s even though the new 3 Thirty is a "major advancement." The new amps are pretty cool (I already own two), but they don't do a lot of things that the old G-DECs can, or certainly as easily as the old G-DECs can. I've got my 50 modified presets in a nice folder, just waiting to be loaded at the click of a mouse and MIDI, now that I've pretty much mastered it, is an awesome tool.

The main thing I use G-DECs for is live performance - just gigged out with one tonight. I do modify presets and use them along with the backing tracks, especially when I am using two G-DECs, per the stand. I can play through one while the other handles the backing tracks.

I'm working on getting SD cards loaded so I can gig with the new 3 Thirty amps.

Soon.

Very interesting...what's the largest size SD card that they will take?

Dennis -

I listened to your soundclips and read about how you use the several G-DEC 30s to play live gigs.

Great idea....imagine only lugging one of the new -3's with several SD cards. I think you're onto something here!

Sounds really fine! 8)
