I sold my G-Dec 30 - shipped UPS ground from Los Angeles, CA to Seattle, WA. It was working fine but the buyer said........

"After I turn it on and it goes through it's set up it's starts generating a bunch of static and hiss. It doesn't matter if a guitar is plugged in or not. I tried 2 different power cords and 3 different outlets, all of which work fine with my G-Dec 15. The box arrived without any signs of abuse and the amp looks brand new, but unusable."

Could I (seller) get some help from the community??
Any idea of what could have come loose during shipping?
or
Could it have been the last firmware update - gone wrong?

Really appreciate any feedback from anyone with similar experience or even if someone from Fender could chime-in...please??

Thanks!!

There is nothing in there that you, as a user, can do much about. Most likely it's poor solder workmanship on the PCboard. But if it's like new and never tampered with, don't let anyone mess with it just yet. You don't want to void the original warranty.

As much as I like my GDEC-30, there seems to be a lot of them that just have these kind of wierd problems. Fender knows they've had problems but never specified it by a specific lot or date (most logically, the earliest production runs). But they will almost honor any GDEC under their 5 year transferrable warranty (even without a receipt in most cases) and they don't repair them, they replace them.
BTW... the GDEC30 was introduced 7/2006 so any GDEC30 will still be technically under the 5 year warranty... a no brainer.

I'd reccomend that either the buyer try & take it to a Auth.Fender Service near them, or else you'll end up getting it back and you'll have to deal with it the same way.

If it's any consolation, I and many others have been unfortunate to have a GDEC fail. But on Fender's behalf, they have honored the warranty and of all the cases I've heard on these Fender posts, there was only one case I know of where the replacement amp also failed.
Mine has been rock solid for quite a while now and I still love it.

Good luck.

Update:
the buyer reset it and then updated the firmware. That resolved the static/hissing problem 100%. Now, it still has a hum problem.

I refunded the buyer and I am getting the G-Dec back. I'll have to get it serviced I suppose.

Never had a problem ever - until I shipped it away. Amazing.

Sounds alot like the loose component problems in the Cyber Deluxe. Several of us fixed the issue by opening the amp and making sure the IC chips were seated and all the plugs are fully plugged in. Be advised, this voids the warentee, but normally fixes the problem.

Many companies in addition to Fender have had assembly and soldering issues on equipment made over seas.

A lot of the settings have the gain way up and if you use a guitar with single coil pups the hiss and noise are horrible. I turned all the effects off on some of my presets and saved them.

HI, have a hum with my G-DEC 3. After reading workerbee's comment I opened the back of it, to look whether there is a loose contact. Unfortunately don't get to the PWB. How do I open the upper part of the amp. Don't want to crack or break anything by accident...

I would reset it and back off some of the gain settings. I'd also be sure it's not near florescent lighting or CRT computer monitors. It should be under warranty. Hopefully you transferred it. If he sends it back to Fender, they just replace it.

Thanks for the reply! Tried different places in my house. Don't have fluorescent lights nor CRT monitors (but I remember how they looked like :) ). Problem when I exchange it, it will stink again for three or four weeks. I wonder that nobody got ill in the China assembly plant...
Therefore I want to open it carefully to have a look into. If I don't see a obvious cold soldering joint or loose connector, I'll get it back.
Therefore my question how to open it without destroying.

Be careful not to void the warranty. I had a GDdec 15 that had a bad data wheel and Fender replaced it with a store credit that I used towards a GDec 30. I'm still not thrilled with it. It's just a practice tool. It never leaves the house unless our drummer has a problem getting to rehearsal. Then we just use it to keep time.

Ok, maybe you're right but let's assume I'd like to open it. How could I do so?

Not so much static noise but I just tried a Variax JTV-59 through a G-DEC30. It kinda pushed it over the edge on full volume on guitar so I guess with signal boosters you need to be careful. Rolling off the volume to half-way solved it but it kinda freaked me out for a while thinking the amp was about to blow!

It sounded like the internal signal processing just overloaded and distorted so bad it put itself into an endless loop of noise, hard to explain but it may benefit someone!

sound problem: 2006 G-DEC 30

while I'm playing, every once in a while all sound cuts from the amp and instead a short loud burst of "tv" static comes out, then my amp comes back to normal sound. What's happening? (nothing on the amp screen changes or turns off, no lights flash)
p.s. I just purchased a mustang pedal, this also happened same day first time. coincidence?
speaker?
circuit board?
connections?
age?
compatible mustang pedal?

is this repairable?
