I just got a (used...) Fender G-Dec. Unfortunately I'm having some problems with it.

1. the speaker doesn't output any sound (only pops when switching the amp on or off). The headphone out works fine. The speaker also doesn't work if no headphone is connected.
2. the tuner button doesn't work most of the time. It doesn't seem like a mechanical problem as when it is working (which isn't often, as I said), it works by easy, light pressing, as I'd expect it.
3. I can't update the software to 1.03.03. It's running 1.03.02 at the moment, and I tried with three different computers (two new MacBookPros 17" and one MacPro 2.66 xeon quad, all running 10.6.2) and two different midi interfaces (Emagic Unitor 8 and Emagic MT-4) and cables, but the update won't complete. The software updater I'm running on my mac always says the update would be complete and the amp would reboot now, but the amp doesn't. It always stays stuck near the end of the progress bar. When I press exit or switch the amp off and back on, it's still at 1.03.02.

Any idea...?

Do you know any reliable history about the amp? Did you know the previous owner other than buying the amp, like where he bought it or how long he had it (for aproximating an original purchase date)?
Check if the amplifier has been tampered with by the previous owner (do the screws on the back panel look like someone removed them to try and open the amp?).

If it's clean, don't open it if it never has been tampered with.
I'd take it to a authorized Fender repair near you. The amp has a 5 year transferable warranty. Just tell them it was a gift or something from aprox 2 years ago but can't find the receipt. You've never registered it before and now you're having problems with it.
They have had several problems with these amps and they will most likely take care of it for you. In fact, in most cases they will exchange it for a new one, or maybe now that the new GDEC-3 THIRTY is out, they may even give you credit towards a new purchase (if you're lucky).

The thing is that most Fender repair shops will do it with very little question. Unless the shop owner is an A**H***, you should have no problem.

I bought mine used over a year or so ago and about 3 months later, it crapped out. Fender replaced it for me with a new one! I just told them that it was purchased from Guitar Center aprox 2 years ago but I couldn't find the receipt.

Good Luck and let us know what you do.....

I have a Jr. I bought used and started having a few issues. I talked to Jeff Krause of Fender Support I only had a copy of the paypal recept from ebay not the original. He said that it would not be a problem just include that receipt when I sent it to a service center and they would replace it. my amp was made in 07
Bottom Line is Call Fender Support not email they get swamped. :D
