Hey Everybody,

I thought I’d take a minute to introduce myself here on the Fender G-DEC forum. My name is Loren, and I am heading the customer support staff for everything G-DEC 3 related. I’ll be checking the forum often, so if there are any questions you have I’ll be more than happy to answer them for you. We’ve been working very hard to bring these great amps to you, and are extremely excited about the initial response they’ve been getting. We have every bit of confidence that when you do get your hands on one, you’ll be even more excited about them.

Thanks,

Loren

Hey Loren:

Thanks for introducing yourself. Quick question. Is the amp modeling the same for the 3 as the orignal G-DEC or did the engineers go back and make all new algorythms? Also, if its possible to tell us at this point, what amps are modeled or is it like before..blackface 1, blackface 2, blackface 3, etc.

Hey guys, thanks for the warm welcome.

Mike: I'm pleased to say that Jeff really likes the new G-DEC 3. I think it says a lot when guys like him are excited about what most consider to be a practice amp.

psychmusic: The amp modeling is much improved over the previous models. It's an all-new DSP engine.

Stay tuned for more info on the amps that were used as models.

Loren

Is there any chance of an upgrade for the original G-Dec to achive some of the new sounds or use the new software? My amp is not very old and I'm afraid no one will want to buy it from me so I can buy a new one that even cheaper than my old one.

Nice to meet you Loren!
I'm excited about the new G DEC 3. Looks and sounds like a fantastic amp! I will be purchasing one when they are available. Since they aren't available until April, I have a few questions though.

1.) What are the Mac and PC system requirements for the Fender Fuse and Amplitube software? I didn't see any listed.
2.) Are you able to switch keys and BPM of the new artists backing tracks?
3.) Does it have MIDI and the Composition Mode like the G DEC 30?
4.) Are there more DSP effects than the previous models?
5.) I see the GDEC 30 foot switch is compatible. Are there any plans to release a more advanced foot switch for the 3 that would have the ability to turn effects on/off, switch amp models (A/B), or include a volume/wah pedal — similar the Line 6 foot switches? Having this type of foot switch would send it waaay over the top in my opinion.
6.) Is there a limit to the size of SD card memory it can read?
Thanks for the incredible products that provide so much inspiration!

Hey Bluesdelux.

I'm gonna try to answer as much as I can.

1. Fender Fuse is not an incredibly cpu taxing piece of software. Pretty much any system with USB 1.1 and XP SP3 will run it quite nicely. On the Mac side, I believe Mac OS X 10.3 or later will work fine. Stay tuned for updated info on that, though.

2. The new Band Tracks are all MP3 or WAV audio files. The new Fender G-DEC 3 gives you the ability to timestretch (50 to 150%) and/or pitchshift (+/- 5 steps) the audio on the fly.

3. It does not have midi ports. It does play midi files wonderfully, though. It also features a phrase sampler with overdubbing.

4. There are more DSP effects. All of the amp models and effects use an entirely new engine. They sound unbelievable.

5.The ULT-4 footswitch is compatible with the Fender G-DEC 3. Your idea for a footswitch would be pretty cool though. Unfortunately, like most other companies, we do not discuss future products.

6. The Fender G-DEC 3 supports SDHC cards up to 8GB.

I hope my answers help.

Thanks for the answers, much appreciated!
1.) Regarding the system requirements, I have a relatively old Mac Titanium running on an 800 mhz PowerPC G4 processor, OS 10.4, is this sufficient?
2.) So you can't change keys like the GDEC 30?
3.) Does the phrase sampler have a longer recording time than 28 seconds?

1. Your Mac will be fine. As I said before, it's not a very taxing program at all.

2. While, technically you can't change the key like you can when using a MIDI sequence, the time stretch function allows you to change the pitch of what you're playing without changing the tempo. That, basically, will change the key of the song.

3. The Fender G-DEC 3 has two recording modes. You can record in high quality uncompressed mode or a lower quality mode that allows for longer recordings. High quality mode gives you 35 seconds of recording time, and the lower quality mode gives you 2 mins, 20 seconds.

Hi Loren,

It is terrific news for me to hear that I could record more than 28 seconds of music using a lower quality recording mode in the phrase sampler.

Could you please be me more specific about how to do this? I've been through the manual but been unable to find the proper switch or option to turn on. Maybe this requires the latest software upgrade?

Thank you very much for your kind answer!
Bob (in Paris)

Hey Bob.

It looks like there may have been some confusion. I was referring to the capabilities of the new Fender G-DEC 3, not the G-DEC 30.

Hi Loren,

You're right, I realized my mistake a few moments ago.

Anyway, thanks for your answer.

All the best,
Bob
