Does anybody know if there is going to be an updated footswitch for the new Fender G-dec 3? I wonder if it can utilize the ULT-4 ? CD or MP3 input like the 30? Thanks!

The ULT-4 footswitch is specified in the specs as the optional footswitch for the new 15W and 30W GDEC3 .

I received my new 3 Thirty last week. But can't find out how to order the footswitch or get a price on it yet either. In the DVD it shows the footswitch being used, I would really like one. It's a blast, but the footswitch will make using it easier I think.

Hey solejourn,

Have you checked out some of the online retailers such as Sweetwater or Musicians Friend? These guys usually have them in stock.

Hey solejourn:

I bought the foot switch quite a while back for use with my G-DEC 30 amps and found that it was not quite the Godsend I had hoped for. It's fairly hard to see the read out when you are standing up and there are so many functions that it can be pretty frustrating to use it correctly, especially if you are in a live performance situation.

For practicing and playing along, you won't gain a thing with the foot switch as it is much faster to just flip the select button as you go. The foot switch has a couple of annoying defaults when you are playing songs that you have loaded into the G-DEC, the worst of which is that once you finish a song the foot switch will automatically jump to the next song, but if you try to stop a song or jump yourself, you will find yourself jumping between guitar voices or even modifying voices, not switching or stopping the song.

My 4-button foot switch has been in the cupboard for the last six months, just too much hassle to use on stage or even for serious practice. Oh, and it retails for $60, plus tax and shipping.

Just my thoughts,

CRGuitarMan

Hey Solejourn,

While CR makes some accurate points about the footswitch, I have found them easy to overcome. I find the footswitch to be a must for starting and stopping backing tracks. On the new GDEC 3 when I have songs on the memory card loaded (backing tracks) it does not advance to the next song when the current song finishes. I have to advance it manually which is fine. Regarding changing guitar presets accidentally it's a simple matter of understanding the modes. When the red light is on I think it's mode 1 and you can change presets between the quick access presets (QA1, QA2 & QA3). When the mode light is green, you are controlling up and down scrolling through presets in preset mode and if you push the quick access button on the amp, then you can scroll up and down through the songs (backing tracks in the amp) Also in this mode the start button will start the Quick Access song selected or in preset mode the associated backing track in the song.

It is important to note that if durning the song, you are going to want to change presets with the footswitch you must first change back to mode 1 (with the far left footswitch button). Then while the song is playing you can select any of the 3 QA presets. If you do not change back to the correct mode, you will change songs or presets in the middle of your song which is not good. For me that is the only down side. I just have to get into the habit of changing the mode after hitting the start footswitch so I can still change my quick access presets during the song.

I have no trouble seeing the footswitch and there are plenty of LEDs that show you it's status. It is very functional and so far I'd say I wouldn't want to be without it. The main thing is to get to know it and what it does and make sure you're in the right mode if you want to try to change something during a song. Other than that it's a great compliment to the GDEC.

Take care,

Bob
