The MIDI stuff got old fast. Problem is I'm not a computer geek and I don't like complicated gear. I wonder if Fender will abandon updates and repairs on the original GDec. They were replacing them instead of repairing them. Unless they're refurbishing all the returns for repair.

I'm not a computer geek, but liked how you could simply download a backing track from a computer to jam to and to create you own whole songs by composing the backer and downloading it through the midi/USB interface.

The new -3 comes with :

Onboard artist presets and performance loops
MP3 and wav file storage/playback
10" Fender Special Design speaker and high-frequency tweeter
100 factory and user presets with digital amp modeling and DSP effects
USB connection for user programming and audio recording output (USB cable included)
SD card slot for unlimited storage of presets and audio content
Onboard phrase sampler with overdub and export functions
Onboard chromatic tuner
Stereo line outputs for performance and recording
Fender FUSE software application
Ableton Live Lite 8 Fender Edition studio-quality recording software (compatible with G-DEC 3 USB recording output)
AmpliTube Fender LE amp modeling software

I haven't yet mastered the pre-sets on the Micro-Wave oven! This new Amp looks very interesting however.

After having trouble with 2 G-DEC 15's and 2 G-DEC 30's I sure hope they have worked the buggs out of the out-of-control data wheels.

Hay Fender, Build it and they will come!

Hey everyone,
As software lead on the G-DEC’s I haven’t had much time to post on this forum the last few years, but we’ve definitely been listening loud and clear to your problems, questions, and suggestions and we take it all very seriously. As a musician myself, I know just how frustrating technical problems can be, and are absolutely the last thing you want to deal with when you sit down to practice or write. During the development of the G-DEC 3 amps we anticipated these concerns, so we increased our beta testing and expanded our high tech customer service capabilities.

Unfortunately Shane and the rest of us are busy prepping for NAMM so we can’t answer any specifics at this time. I’ll also be at the show answering the more technical questions but after the show if there are any unanswered questions you may have, I’ll try and get them answered for you.

All of us that were involved in the project take great pride in it and are very excited how it has turned out. We can’t wait for you to get an opportunity to try the new G-DEC 3's. Happy New Year! :D

Is the FUSE device a USB interface for recording?

Yeah, I watched both in Brad's post from the Forum Lounge this morning.

This topic is gaining momentum.

I'll take a quick guess at MSRP of $499. :?:

It says on the amps page MSRP: $549.00 for the Thirty.

Note: I am selling my G-dec 30 on the Gear Page and TalkBass forums.

I owned a G-DEC 30 and gave to my 14 year old neice. Here are a few reasons why and the pros and cons vs the G-DEC and Spider Jam.

I did not like the original G-DEC modeling. Blackface 1, Blackface 2, Blackface 3 etc seemed like the same models, but with different gains. Spider Jam actually models real amps. I hope that the G-DEC has more amp modles to choose from and better modeling algorhtyms. It seems that the G-DEC was meant for metal and I play more blues, country, and classic rock.

Its moot now, but the midi was very lame. The addition of a woofer and actual tracks should help the new GDEC. I hope that that overdub option is longer, that should have been easy to fix. I did like the idea of being able to play any midi in any key. That was indeed a very good practice tool and found that improved my playing more than any other G-DEC option.

I like the idea of 30 watt amp (GDEC) vs 75 watt (spider jam).

I like the idea of being able to use microphone with the Spider Jam and it seems easier to tweek the effects rather than just one wheel where you have to toggle back and forth. I like a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) approach.

Overall you could actually record with the Spider Jam becuase of the mic option. I suspect you will only be able to record guitar with the G-DEC, which is ok, but I am more intersted in full song recording. I do think that this is where something like the PODx3 and line 6 products have a real advantage.

When push comes to shove, its gonig to come down to what amp sounds better. Fender has some tough competition with the Spider. Line 6 really has the modeling down pat. I do wish Fender luck and look forward to taking a G-DEC for a test drive. I want Fender to do well here, I really do. But I will ultimately buy the amp that offers the best sound with the best options.

I considered the Spider Jam. The mic input and extra power were tempting.

But I like being able to change the key of the backing tracks -- something you can't do on the Spider Jam. I also like being able to download my own tracks -- again something you can't do on the Spider Jam.

Some of the MIDI instruments on the G-DEC do sound a bit hokey but the bass and drums sound good and these are the instruments you primarily want to play with.

Just bought the G-Dec 30 two weeks ago, struggled through the firmware update process, compatible USB/Midi interface issue in the end. Finally got this thing updated and working as advertised, to see that there is a new, better, faster, stronger version coming soon (queue six mil $ man theme).

Well I bought the G-Dec 30 because I wanted a little practice amp that had on-board effects, and a way of jamming along with beats/tracks and didn't require me hooking up a lot of little pedals or other devices. The midi interface and ability to store them on-board was what actually got me to pull the trigger, and the Eric Johnson YouTube demo.. If it was good enough for Eric, how could I go wrong? Eric had dialed in some Sweet tones, I haven't been able to get them quite so good and even tried some of the settings spread sheets out there. If anyone has some good EJ settings can you please post them? :P

I am actually pretty pleased with the G-Dec 30, yes the midi files sound pretty lame, but midi files have always sounded kind of lame to my ears and this is after all advertised as a "Practice Amp". The ability to store mp3 and wav files as backing tracks on-board is a great improvement imo.. Yeah I could plug in my MP3 or CD player the the 30 but that's another device which kind of defeats the purpose.

The use of a strait USB interface is a good idea due to the issues with finding compatible midi interfaces I've had (I don't live in the States). The SD card would be cool because you could potentially store so much data on it. I just hope that it's at least SDHC because they can store a whole lot more data than just a standard SD slot, e.g. SD = 1 - 4 GB SDHC = 4 to 32 GB, so far btw SDXC = up to 2 TB. I have heaps of MP3 and Wav files, Wav files are quite large compared to MP3 mine average 50 MB per song, and I find the Wav files sound better than MP3 unless the MP3 is very high quality.

The software interface directly to a pc or laptop sounds great, and the recording and studio stuff sounds terrific, I need to read up on this aspect. My brother in Hawaii and I were trying to work out a way of jamming on line, I plugged my Vocalist Live 4 with guitar and mic directly into my laptop mic input and he was able to hear me playing and singing fine over Skype, but his Mac didn't appear to have the right software to have the right software to send a signal back through Skype (I'm all thumbs with Macs) . Hopefully as I saw mentioned in another post, this new Fender software will allow us to jam together to the same backing tracks?

Anyways,, I am pretty interested in what this new G-Dec can do, hopefully it will be able to deliver without a bunch of firmware updates required first, though if the process is painless no problem.

Bring On April, or probably December knowing New Zealand, oh and a MSRP of $549 USD = $1200 NZD - $1500 NZD no doubt they routinely rip us off down here. The G-Dec 30 was listed at $300 in the States and $899 down here BTW (899.00 NZD = 662.114 USD), luckily I got mine for just under $700 NZD about $515 USD as they recently marked it down, probably in anticipation of the G-Dec 3? Sometimes I laugh when you guys in the States complain about the cost of Fender products up there, I would be quite happy to pay US MSRP!
