Greetings all.
When I attempt to use the B-DEC 30 updater utility, it just hangs (over an hour with no progress). Following the step by step instructions included with the updater, it progresses to the point of "MIDI update loading host v03" and a blank status bar displayed on the amp. The PC has "ready to load" and another blank status bar. The 'Song' button flashes red/green. No further progress is made.
The amp is connected via MIDI cables (able to play MIDI files thru the amp and alter/ dump presets to and from the PC). Hopefully there is an easy solution for my problem.

Thanks in advance,
Al

Hi Al,
What MIDI device are you using to connect your B-DEC to the PC with? The following devices are known to work for any DEC function:

* M-Audio / Midiman 1x1, 2x2, 8x8
* M-Audio Firewire Audiophile
* E-Magic MT4
* Roland Edirol UM-1
* MOTU Fastlane

The following devices have known problems:
* Yamaha UX-16 - Update function will fail
* M-Audio USB UNO - Songloader will fail in handshake mode, though you may still load songs with the "Blind Transfer" option.
* Update function may fail with outdated drivers.

Hi Brian. Thanks for getting back to me.
I purchased a MIDISPORT 1x1 on the weekend, and it worked fine. I had the B-DEC connected directly to the MIDI in/out ports on my Sound Blaster Audigy Drive front panel, which works well for keyboards. The presence of MIDI ports on the amp are a little misleading, if the B-DEC needs to be connected via MIDI to USB adapters, why are the MIDI connections there in the first place?
Anyway, bottom line is: problem solved, and playtime begins . :D

Cheers,
Al

While MIDI is a standard used to connect musical interfaces and computers the drivers for various MIDI devices behave differently timing wise when sending large amounts of MIDI data. This means that certain devices have trouble with the firmware update process for the DEC platform. The devices recommended in the list were devices in which we did not encounter any timing issues with various PC/Mac configurations.
The MIDI connectors also make it possible to hook MIDI keyboards up to the amp to control the synth as well as transfer presets between amplifiers without a PC connection.

Thanks,
Brian
