Hi,

Just bought a new GDEC 15 Executive - very nice looking and a lot of fun to be had as I'm still in the early days of my playing.

This is an upgrade from a Roland Microcube amp but I am getting lots of broken, distorted sound when I play through clean settings eg acoustic with no effects. I did not get this with my Roland which is much less powerful so am sure it's not the amp being overloaded from the guitar.

I've also tried playing with the volume knobs on the guitar turned down but it always seems to be there if a strike a chord with any force - it's a high quality cable too so I'm sure it's down to the amp.

Is this normal - do you guys get a similar thing? If so, it's a little dissapointing I think.

Many thanks,
Matt

Hi, and welcome to the forums

Check the gain on most of the pre sets, they are set way to high (in my opinion) I dont think I have gain set to more than 3 or 3.5 on any of mine
Hope this helps
Bill

Thanks Bill - yeah, I tried this but still the same issue - I've stripped all effects off and turned the volume down on the guitar but still get a broken up sound when I strike the chords.... it's a also a really noisey amp! Loads of hissing and all sorts - I even get a buzz every time the red light flashes when the 'Save' button lights up.

Sounds like you should take it back...
Good Luck

I agree. It shouldn't be that noisy.

Thanks guys - I've taken it back, the shop were fine about it.... I've taken it as a blessing in disguise as I'm now looking at the Blackstar HT5 instead! :D

Hit your AMP key a few times until it lets you select what type of amp sound you want. The G-Dec mimics many styles of Amp. Don't worry about the presets... Just make them sound the way YOU WANT. It's your amp btw. You can always reset to default later if you want to start over! Rock on! I finally figured out Vintage 69 Rolling Stones on the G-Dec. Sounds rustic and awesome. The G-Dec is complicated but worth it.

Hi Matt,
I've been having the same problem with my G-Dec and tried finding solutions on a few websites without success. I kept trying different tweeks and found that the "Timbre" setting for all of the acoustic "Amp" presets were set on Acoustic (maybe it's a double effect?).
When I set that to "none" and reduced the gain, as others have suggested (on both the amp and the guitar), that improved the acoustic setting considerably. I don't know if settings are the same on the model you're using but it's worth looking at. I have the "compressor" setting to "off" and no FX.
Hope that helps,
Brian

Try this to isolate the problem.

Turn on the amp without anything plugged in. The amp should be silent through the first 2/3s or more of the volume control. If not - its broken.

Plug in only your chord. If there is noise, get a good chord.

Plug in you instrument. All noise at this point is grounding/shielding issues in your instrument.

If you get past these first steps, the amp should be quiet when you are not playing and making noise when you play. Press "amp" and select either blackface1, tweed1 or dyna-touch1. With all the controls on your guitar full on, play. The sound should be clean. With the 15 watt gdec you may need to reduce the guitar's volume if you have hot pickups. If you have to turn down more the 1/3 of the volume control to get a clean sound, there is something wrong with the amp.

One other thing. the acoustic settings are a little different the the other settings. Timber is normally like a speaker emulator. The acoustic timber setting makes an electric sound like it has an under bridge pickup. The acoustic amp model does exactly what you would expect; it acts like an acoustic amp with more gain and even amplification across the full freq. spectrum. With an electric guitar, use the acoustic timber and not the amp setting. With an acoustic guitar, use the acoustic amp setting and not the timber (sounds best with the timber set to none).

Thanks WORKERBEE for your info. I am new to G-dec as well so you guys are helping me, but got a question

When you turn on the amp it loads up as u00 Rocking G-dec, if i follow your posting i still get hissing noise, but if i go to say u01 Chicargo Blues no hissing at all, would you say the amp is ok, and should there always be a humming noise

Thanks

Hi Donald 550,
Your amp is fine. That first setting is chock full of effects. IMHO Fender could have started off with a clean setting and invited us to mess with it rather than knock our socks off every time the amp is turned on.
Go to P10 "Happy Strum". Hardley any effects here. Dial through the amp settings Blackface1 Tweed1 and find one that's o.k. Next play with the other settings under the amp button:Gain,Amp Volume,Bass, Middle,Treble etc. You will come to a setting that pleases you eventually, lots of trial and error during this part. Write This Setting Down, be sure to note any F/X or Reverb as well.
Spin that silver dial through all the "P" settings and when you come to setting "U00" stop. Enter the values you have written down using the Amp button and the silver dial. If you have any effects or Reverb enter them using the F/X button and the silver dial. Hit the flashing red Save button twice. Not done just yet.
Using the Utility button and the silver dial (yet again) name the Preset you have created. This will be the new start-up setting for your amp. Let us know how you make out.

Cheers,
John.E
