I am a HUGE fan of the G-DEC/B-DEC series, so it's hard to hear some of the unfounded criticism. I kind of stuck my head under the Fender fountain and got fully soaked. I went and got a Fender J Bass, a Squier Modified P, and a B-DEC. In the beginning, the options were almost bewildering, to the point that I was disappointed with the some of the gear... until I learned how all it was supposed to work.

I read an article about how most amps are over eq'd. By putting all of the knobs to full on, you are actually working against the intended design philosophy of most amps. The article went on to describe the right way to tweak the settings to get the settings you desire.

Step 1: set everything to flat or neutral setting. There is a reason why the knobs are marked -db and +db. If you set them to flat, you have a range to work with. If you set them to full open, you have no where to go.

Step 2: Adjust 1 feature at a time. The B-DEC has so many options. Changing them all at once is madness. I found that using the Editor software makes this process extremely friendly, because if you like something, you can save it, if not start over.

Step 3: Understand what every setting does. The first time I saw contour, I had no idea what it was, nor what it did (along with every setting). Spend some quality with the manual really helped in knowing what setting to use to get the desired sound shaping.

Step 4: Use the presets as a guide. I thought Fender did a pretty good job with the representative style choices they made. Analyze the settings. They made provide a clue on how to find that perfect tone!

I have just passed the 2 year mark owning the B-DEC. Along with my other Fender gear, it was the best investment I made. A close second was Band in a Box.

I only got the G-Dec Jr, as I wanted an inexpensive, but good practice amp with reverb of some sort, and it's been a lot of fun.

I don't know how much I would use it if I was performing and/or recording, but for playing around with at home? Tons of fun.

Just experimenting which amp settings and effects work best together with themselves, and with which guitar and outboard effects is a lot of fun, and when you hit on a good combination? It's a great feeling. I even made a chart so I could keep track of it all.
