While I had a Fender magazine ad from 2005, it took me a while to get into a music store to try out a G-DEC. The salesmen in two different stores were not entirely up to speed on setting one up, so the sound was not ideal at the time, but I heard enough by the second store to make me buy one there. That was May of 2008. I was so thrilled with the overall sound, rhythm backup, and other features that I kept the G-DEC, but I also purchased a G-DEC30 in July of 2008. I still enjoy the G-DEC because it has a couple of rhythm tracks that the G-DEC30 does not have, and I, for one, like the variety of the 8-inch speaker, along with its 15-watt output, and go-anywhere compact size. The G-DEC30 also has a nice sound with its 10-inch speaker, but I wanted to try using an extension speaker. I was doing some research on cabs, but I looked over my other amps I already had. I discovered that my 1977 Kustom IILSC combo and my 2005 Carvin Vintage 16 each had plug-ins for their 12" speakers which were rated at 8 ohms. So I bought an Electro-Harmonix Switch Blade and now play the G-DEC30 through either 12" speaker, selected by hitting the Switch Blade. Or for variety, I go back to just the G-DEC30's 10".

Recently, I finally got a MIDI cable. So far, I'm using it to go from the G-DEC's "out" socket into the G-DEC30's "in" socket. This allows me to run both amps at once, setting the G-DEC's rhythm track and hearing that rhythm backing come out the G-DEC's speaker as well as the G-DEC30's speaker or either extension cabinet, as explained above. As I plug my guitar into the G-DEC30, the lead then comes only out of the G-DEC30's selected speaker, but the backing sound is more interesting to me, as it is coming out of an 8" as well as 10" or 12" speakers. Another thing I enjoy doing is to slow certain backing tracks way down using the tempo adjustment, as with Trainbilly or 50's Rock, to make them more blues sounding, in addition to the other blues tracks. I'm sure much of this stuff is "old news" to many, but for those still wondering about the G-DEC amps, unless you have a bass-player, a drummer, and maybe a piano-player on call, to me Fender really came up with a winner with these little amps with their great variety of sounds. I also believe that every guitar store should have a G-DEC permanently available for use when trying out a guitar, especially for those of us who tend to play more lead guitar.
