Fender lists several midi/usb interface devices that they say work with the B-Dec or G-Dec for interfacing with a computer. I would like to hear from others as to what their experience has been with the ones recommended by Fender or if they have found others that work well.
thanks,
Dan

The most popular one is about the cheapest, the M-Audio Midisport Uno, about $40.

Hopefully Fender will simply include a USB port on the future G-DEC series and greatly simplify the lives of the G-DEC faithful. Not to mention offer DIRECT USB RECORDING!

I've heard good things about this E-MU one for about $10 less than the UNO and one of the reviewers even claims that it works great with his G-DEC 30 :

I bought the M-Audio USB MIDISPORT 2X2
for $80.00. Connected to a Pentium 4 PC
(Win 200) and a Mac with Leopard.
The circuits through the DEC are strong
and so far, no complaints.

I have an older Turtle Beach USB/Midi cable that worked perfectly for my GDEC. It would transfer presets on my new BDEC, but not update the firmware. I bought a Roland Edirol UM-1 (recommended by Fender) and it will do NOTHING at all. Drivers are installed in XP OK, but it doesn't recognize the BDEC. Save your money on that one.

I ended up buying this one and I'm very satisfied with it. Just sayin'...

Reply:

Updating the G-DEC firmware can be really tricky. I tried everything and the only thing that worked for me was to use the -f flag on a command line execution of the firmware update file (this is described in the readme file that accompanies the firmware update). However, I had to use the DOS box in Windows XP to do this -- running the firmware update with the "Run" command approach described in the readme file did not work for me.
