Do any of you Fine Fender Folk have good or bad things to report about the following Midi to USB converters:

1- Motu Fastlane
2- Cakewalk UM-1G
3- Tapco Link Midi

I've seen the page elsewhere on this site regarding the units that are not compatable, just looking for some more options. Thanks all.

I'd like to know too. I need one for a G-DEC and a POD 2.3.

I asked a well known Fender amp tech and was recommended to
get the E-Mu 1 x 1 and it's been working fine for me.

Cakewalk's UM-1G works perfectly with the G-Dec 30 functions using standard Windows XP drivers or Cakewalk's optimized drivers (preffered)
Presets in/out,
Updates in,
Songs in, MIDI 0 only
Streaming MIDI in/out for accompaniment/creating tracks. (MIDI 0 or 1)
I've used with Guitar Pro 5, Anvil Studio or any program that will output default MIDI synth sounds through the UM-1G out.

Very easy and fun

Shawn

Thanks Mike and Shawn, I've been learning and relearning for the past few months, and now that my ear and fingers are almost back in sync it's time to take the midi leap. I'll keep you posted (humor?)

I bought a no-name USB-Midi cable on Amazon for a few bucks. It looks nice and appears that its working. But, the G-DEC does not respond to it. So, guess I'll ante up and get a better cable as I can't even find a name on this one to see if I can update drivers for the cable...

Gotta love tech.. lol

I use the M-Audio MidiSport 2 x 2. It works with my B-Dec and all my other midi instruments

I have the Cakewalk UM-1G installed with the drivers that came with the CD and the newest version drivers off the cakewalk site and I am unable to update the G-Deck 30 firmware or transfer midi files to the G-Deck.. I can however play midi files from my laptop or pc's to the amp with this interface. Were you able to update the firmware with the Cakewalk UM-1G ?

It looks like I have version 1.03.00 and DMR 1.02 currently.

When I try to use the GDEC30_Updater_v1_04_00_03 I see the progress bar then I get the error on my PC File Write Error and Upload Error on the G-Deck.
They don't sell any of the approved USB to Midi interfaces here anymore so need to try and use a newer one, I assume they are just not supported buy the old G-Deck firmware?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If it's any help, I'm using the M-Audio Uno and it works flawlessly. I'm using a Mac, but there's no reason why it shouldn't work for an Intel box with the right drivers.
They are still available for purchase, and not horribly expensive.

Thanks for the tip Strat Cat!

I thought there was some problem with the UNO from the G-Deck documentation, but it looks like there is a work around. Hopefully the fact that you are using a MAC isn't the reason why it works for you.. I wish I have at least one Mac instead of 12 Win & Linux boxes..

I just rang a RockShop in Auckland they have an UNO in stock so I am going up there to grab it now, only 1.5 hours away.. Wow I didn't expect them to be open on New Years Day..

I'll post my results, thanks again Mate! :D

Bummer, they both cost the same thing down here $129.00 so just swapped them, bought the original Cakewalk UM-1G from a different branch of the same music shop.

Yup I was getting the same problem, the M-Audio Uno fixed it.

Good Luck.
