I was just at GC and saw these amps. They seem great! Much better than my cheesy amp, and I'm thinking of getting one. But, which? There's the G-DEC for $260 and the G-DEC 30 for $313. I'm just playing as a hobby, in my house. The one labeled as G-DEC, I'm not sure if this is a '15'. It's not labeled that way, just G-DEC. There's also a 'junior' for $150.

Thanks.

The G-Dec is a 15 watt. I went earlier today to return the G-Dec that I bought last weekend because the data wheel freaked out and decided to go up to the G-Dec 30. The 30 watt has a MUCH better sound. Well worth the $50 more IMO

BTW, $313 is a good price, they sell for $360 here.

The Base "G-Dec" is 15 watts. Yes the -30 has better sound. The phrase sampler is twice as long. There are more amp types and more backing tracks. The -30 has line outs and an external speaker jack that are missing from the base model.

I had a base model for a couple of years. They are fine; however, I'm very happy I upgraded to the -30. The -30 will let you play churches and small places where the base model was just a great practice amp.

The base Gdec has much more programming/modeling capability than the Jr. The Jr sounds good and is easier to operate.

If you are looking for a great practice amp, go for the Jr. If you want a practice/play at home amp the base G-Dec is great; however, there is a tremendous increase in sound quality and features for only $50.00. Even at $100 difference, I would g for the -30.

The looper also has sound on sound on the 30. I traded up because the 15 had problems with the data wheel.

I was looking as building a pine cabinet and installing new speakers when I saw a -30 come up on Ebay. I bought it and sold mine.

I had a couple days with both amps to do a true side by side comparison. The -30 does sound better.

I bought a G-dec and i hardly play it anymore. The knob to select the presets bounces all around when i turn it , but most annoying is it can make any guitar sound like a 50 dollar starcaster.Total garbage.Turning it up only akes it worse.I use backing tracks and either my blues deluxe or my Bassman.I do occasionally use it for a tuner though.

Sorry it didn't work out for you. A lot of rock stars think it sounds just fine! They use it backstage for warming up. Notable G-DEC users include

Dweezil Zappa
Eric Johnson
Mickey from Ween
Mark Morton from LAMB OF GOD
Steve Winwood

PS. If your data wheel is acting erratically, get it fixed. If you bought the amp new, you have a 5-year warranty.

The GDEC-30 is a great amp for practice and if you use midi controllers and are computer literate, they can really be a great tool for practice.

I bought my G-DEC used. I like it, but like so many, the data wheel freaks out.

It seems like so many people are having issues with the data wheel that Fender should just issue a recall. It would be a nice customer service jesture on their part.

My GDEC-30 was used but I knew the original aprox. purchase date. sThey replaced it! I think that Fender knows they've has a few problem with these amps but want to make things right for their customers.

So, does anyone know if the problem with the Data wheel has been corrected on new GDEC's? Or do you just take your chances when you buy one?

Shane,
You'd better add Steve Stevens to that list:

I'm thinking of getting a G-Dec Exec, for practicing and writing at home, and a G-Dec 30 for using at small clubs for some of the Jam Nights we have going around here. I'm hoping the -30 will work like a small version of the Cyber Twin for gigs like that.

I must admit, the recurring data wheel issues do give me reason for concern, which is why I would only invest in a new amp. I would hope, as with my much older and time tested Fender amps, that these will last and perform like their predecessors.

Fender replaced mine because of the data wheel. They gave me a store credit but it took 6 weeks and several phone calls to the place I purchased it from to get it. I traded up to the 30. I run live backing tracks through it because I got tired of the midi backing tracks. I thought it would have a wider variation of the tracks, but it's kind of more of the same over processed sounds. I always have to fish through the menus to turn stuff off and back off a lot of the gain, reverb and echo.

If you like effects, you'll love this thing. It's still a great practice tool, but the midi stuff gets old too fast for me. If you know midi I'm sure you can get creative with it. I would also check out the Line 6 Jam.

Well....it's time to sign me up...I just got my G-Dec Exec delivered today....I have to admit, this little amp is amazing!!!

I've been jamming on this for a few hours now and just ripping away at styles I've never even played before. WAYYYYYYYY COOOOOOL

I've already created my first program with a great lead tone and a cool accompanyment with it...and it's so easy to do, I have'nt even looked at the manual yet.

I can say beyond any doubt at this point that my next amp will be the G-Dec 30 for small clubs along with it's footswitch, and cover, ....then a Cyber-twin with a ATA case and it's Contoller pedal. GO FENDER!!!

This little amp kicks royal BUTT, but the real bonus is that the pics of it in magazines or on the web really don't do it justice. When you see it in front of you...the Exec is drop dead GORGEOUS!

Can you transfer MIDI tracks onto the G DEC or just the G DEC 30? I can't find a clear answer, but everything that talks about the GDEC talks about "streaming" to the amp, while G DEC talks about "file transfer." Any insights here? Thanks!
