Recording a phrase sample while playing along with a preset isn't a problem, just push a button on the foot switch. I can't figure out how to then playback the phrase with the backing. I can get the phrase to play back without backing.

EDSHAW, I can't answer your question as I've given up trying to use the phrase sampler on the G-DEC.

However, I recently bought a Boss RC-2 Loop Station and it will do exactly what you want and more. You probably aren't looking for a $200 answer to your question, but google the Boss RC-2 and see if it meets your needs if you're serious about looping and have the money to spend.

I'm absolutely thrilled with mine and can write a whole lot more about using a looper with a G-DEC if you're interested.

Thanks, George. I'll look into that Boss unit.
So often happens, the gear built specifically
for the purpose winds up being the answer.
In the meanwhile, I'm trying to follow closely
Heath's YouTube video on looping with the
Bass DEC. Maybe I can get the DEC-30 to work
as well as Heath gets the Bass unit to do. Thanks
again for the reply and sound advice.

Be careful when you record. There are 2 record modes: normal or "record" and "overdub." In the record mode you record everything. In the Overdub mode, you record only the guitar.

Set the foot switch to mode 3 and use button 3 to start and stop normal recording. Button 4 is for overdubing and will only record the guitar.
