In my opinion, the G-DEC is the perfect beginner's amp. it has all kind of guitar sounds & tone, and effect, all in one box, and very affordable.

I'm an old all-tube amp freak myself, but I wish I would ahve had a G-DEC when I started playing guitar 25 years ago! My wife doesn't want me to buy a G-DEC because she knows the kids will not use it, but I will ! Some pro guitar players use the G-DEC backstage, at home too.

Your best bet is to go to your local deale and try one !

Not only worth buying, it's the law! Beginners need to play to a beat, it teaches rhythm and time skills. I recommend the highly affordable G-DEC Jr. as its knobs allow quick and easy tone and jam tunes selection. But I highly recommend you add on the required midi gear and stream midi files into it from a PC.

The guitar tones and EFX are excellent.

The onboard midi playback engine is excellent.

It even has a phrase grabber for learning riffs.

Sounds great through its headphone out for silent jamming and practicing.

And it can play MP3 files off your iPod.

The only real competitor for the price is the Line 6 GuitarPort system, but that requires a PC and the G-DEC series doesn't. With G-DEC, you can just plug (in) n' play.

It's a fun learning tool. You can't go wrong keeping this in mind.

This is a great learning practice tool. If you spend the money for the -30 you have something you could play out in small places with.

There is enough midi and other things to play with, there is nothing you can't learn with this amp and then apply to any plaing situation with any equipment.

Why didnt they have something like this in 1978 when I started making noise on a guitar????

I keep saying this is for my son, however I see myself using it to help keep my groove in time.

Mines in the mail and should be here by the end of the week.

you guys will no doubt be hearing from me, yet another older Blues/Rocker.

I agree with you; however it is kind of ironic. In '78 I was playing through a Tremolux. Now, I wish I had it back. LOL

I've been playing for 27 years and I still found the G-DEC to be very usefull. I got the G-DEC 30. It's great for my one-man-shows in restaurants and yoga studios. There are several additional expenses that you'll have to concider along with the purchase of the amp though. To program the G-DEC effectively you will need a computer (Mac or PC), a MIDI interface and a real MIDI Sequencer like Sony ACID or Cakewalk Pro. The sequencer software will run you pretty close to the cost of the amp its self. The JAMMER Songwriter 5 software that's free for download at Fender's site is not a real sequencer. You assign canned loops to measures and instruct it to "compose" for you. You have little to no control over the melodies it will produce which can be very irritating. There is no way to enter notes on the staff like you would with a real sequencer. The JAMMER Songwriter Pro 6 that's available for the upgrade price of $65.00 after registering JAMMMER 5 seems to offer more versatility which I've base on the demo songs in the site but not having tried it yet, I don't know if the versatility is due to the additional loops it contains or if you can actually enter notes on the staff. If anyone reading this knows the answer please let me know. Either way I'm pulling towards Cakewalk since I have experience with earlier version of this software.
