I recently bought a G-DEC junior for my wife, who is just learning to play. The features, the sound, and the price were just too good to pass up. I'm more than happy with this amp (particularly at the price I got it for).

After a few weeks of using the amp, I began to notice that several segments of my home automation equipment started behaving irratically. Lights would turn on by themselves, others would not obey commands. I re-addressed all of my automation equipment (mostly X-10 units), but they still behaved as if posessed. Thinking back to what had changed in the house at the time that the problem started, the G-DEC junior seemed to have been introduced at about the right time.

How to verify the hypothesis? Turn on the amp and observe the home automation equipment. Turn it off and observe the same. Turn the amp on and try the non-responsive units, turn it off and repeat the procedure.

Sure enough. The home automation equipment is the source of my house becoming somewhat schizophrenic . My wife loves her amp and is willing to put up with the house behaving strangely. I'm thinking that there has to be a solution.

Has any one else encountered this type of problem? If so, have you found a solution for it?

I'm not sure if this is happening in the radio frequency spectrum or if the interference is noise introduced on my AC lines. Any suggestions on where to start isolating the problem? Fender does not have the schematics posted, so it is kind of hard to determine if I can do something to clean up the power supply side of the amp. I havrn't taken the amp apart to see what might be involved in building some RF shielding for it.

The Gdec has such a low draw, I don't see it doing that, but anything is possible. Modern digital equipment is very sensitive to line trash where older appliances ignored it.

I would recommend going to the Furman site and getting a power conditioner for your home automation equipment and the Gdec.

I used to think it was snake oil salesman selling power conditioners until I saw the difference with an LCD TV. It was incredible. Then I played my CyberDeluxe through a friends Furman and had similar results.

I don't think the Gdec alone is the cause of your problem, but it may be the straw that adds a little something to and already dirty signal.

Good idea. The transient supression would be good to have in my neighborhood anyway. Lots of above ground power and lightning storms.

Thanks!

I put on a Furman 8x power conditioner. It took care of about 80% of the problems. Most of my controls are working as expected now. I still suspect that the G-DEC may be causing some radio frequency interference, but I can live with things working like they are now.

Thanks for the suggestion.
