I just got my new GDEC amp and I am using it with a PRS Single Coil pickup guitar and the amp has a bad humm when the volume is 3 or higher.

I took the amp back to the store where I bought it and they said the reason is because of the single coil pickup. They also said humbucker pickups don't cause this hum.

Has anybody else had this problem?

This hum is quite bad and really is unacceptable to me.

Thanks.

Welcome to the Forum.

Have you tried this amp in other locations? Have you tried it with a humbucker guitar? Have you tried the PRS through other amps?

I stopped back at the dealer and they were very helpful. The problem I was having was, I had my guitar volume on full and then tried to turn amp up, that was causing a bad hum over a volume setting of two. If I keep the guitar volume on aprox half, then the amp can be turned up quite loud with a minimal hum, actually very acceptable. So problem solved.

That doesn't sound right to me either. Try this, just for Fun.

Unplug the guitar cable so there is nothing plugged into the amp. Now turn it on and see if the hum is still there. If the hum is there, try changing amp types. If this reduces the hum, leave the amp on Blackface1. The source of the hum is the amount of gain in your patch. Use the noise gate to fix the hum.

If the amp doesn't hum, the source of the hum is in the chord or guitar. Now, turn the volume on the amp to the minimum possible setting and plug in the chord. Turn the volume up. If there is hum, the chord is bad.

If there is still no hum, turn the amp volume to 0 again. Plug the chord into the guitar. Turn the volume up without playing the guitar. Is there hum? If so, you have a grounding and/or shielding problem with the guitar.

You had a solution to the symptom, reducing the guitar volume. Now you have the cause.
