My G Dec amplifier makes the sound of a blown speaker. This only occurs upon recorded playback. The amp is less than 3 months old and volume has never been above 5. While recording the music sounds normal but during playback it pops and crackles. Any ideas about what is going wrong. The guitar seems to be behaving properly.

Just to clarify, when you say "recorded playback", are you referring to recording a segment of your guitar playing using the built-in phrase recording function? If so, it should sound just as clear and makes me believe that the recorder input circuit is faulty and the amp needs to be taken in to Fender for repair.

Or are you playing back recorded material by connecting a CD player, iPod, or other playback device to the Aux inputs and possibly trying to record that via the built-in phrase sampler? If that's what's going on, it sounds like the input may be overdriven and can be corrected.

Yes I'm referring to the portion I played and recorded onto the amp, then played back. I was told it is possible that the signal going in to the amp, maybe my settings, for recording was too "hot". The plya back then was distorted. It sounds like the pop and crackle you get from a bad speaker. But all other output sounds good.

I tried a few test runs playing a few phrases with my Strat (with & without built-in effects, but NO added or external pedals or effects) on my G-DEC-30, and by default, the settings were full on and I have had no problem. (BTW... the original 15watt G-DEC should be the same if I recall correctly) So that leads me to believe that under normal conditions, there is no way you should be able to overdrive your internal settings so your amp may have a problem. But it still may have a chance....

As a last resort, try a Hard "FACTORY RESET" of your GDEC. I've seen in a few cases that it's an internal thing (like a PC that is acting strange), or a setting you may have accidently changed. A clean rebot/reload will correct it.
NOTE: The bad part to that is all your custom settings or tweaks (ie: ANY and ALL changes you made) will be wiped out and your GDEC will be reset like the day it was shipped from the factory!
BTW.. this is the first thing a repair center will do so you would lose everything anyway! And if the problem still exists, they don't repair your amp.... Fender will exchange it!
(you might want to read your manual for all the details before you make that final decision. You actually can save your individual settings on to your PC, but you can read the manual if you feel compelled to do so. )

So.... if you want to RESET your GDEC, push the "Utility" button and then select the "Factory Restore" option. Then press the "Save" button twice.

Using the reset has been a good thing for may GDEC owners that may have purchased a used GDEC or one that was a "floor sample" (think "Guitar Center"). There's no telling what may have been set by someone that has no idea how it works. After all, it was a new concept for most musicians who only used Tone & Volume controls!

Anyway.. I hope this info helps to either fix your GDEC or determine if it needs fixin'.
.... and keep on playin'!
