Harley you were talking about being able to do A/B tests, how close does this come?

John, I apologize about the misleading statement regarding my ability to A/B actual amp tones with the G-Decs. My collection of amplifiers are all vintage tube models that range between the years of 1959 - 1973. My comparisons I mentioned are for my attempts to re-create the vintage tones in the G-Decs.

I did however try your posted settings, and I found that this one is very easily duplicated on a 1969 Champ, 1970 Princeton Reverb, and 1973 Vibrolux Reverb( re-worked to 1965 Schematics ). I got this same crisp tone identical in all three amps at different power levels. I'm sure I can also get this tone from a 1969 Twin Reverb as well, but I just did'nt pull it out to try it yet. I don't own a Champ XD, so I'm afraid I can't be certain about that. I hope my reply helps you in some way.

Harley,
Thanks for the lab work. I was going on what I remembered of the Champ tone after playing one in G.C. I owned a Jazzmaster and Delux amp in the late '60s and there is some of that tone still bouncing around in my skull as well, glad we found a place to rest it.

Thanks again,
John.E

Hey Harley,
Thanks for the After Dark Tweek! that did get it real close... Mike suggested to put the verb in, And with the tweeks on the tremolo I think you nailed it. Thanks Again.

If you are interested in the "Spreadsheet" but cant download it, I would be glad to email it to you, I think it comes in excell and pdf, or I can probably convert the file to something else if you cant use those.

Just let me know.
Thanks Again

Bill

Hey John,

Those were some good amps to have back in the day, and even today, the Deluxe is still considered to be among one of the best studio/small club amps in the world. I'm just beginning to see the potential in the G-Dec 30 to reach a similar status with it's capabilities. I'll need time to play with it a little more since I just got the 30 a few weeks ago. You do have a good memory of the classic Fender sound though.

Hey Bill,

It's no problem really, I enjoy listening to something and trying to emulate the same sounds with the G-Decs. It's really amazing how such a little amp can produce so many distinctly different tones. The 'After Dark' tone is a pretty easy one since it's very reminiscent of the mid-60's sounds. You can hear the old style spring reverb in the guitar mix, so adding the '63 Spring reverb was a gimme. The trick to getting the tremolo set to the right modulation rate, is to listen for a sustained note, that allows you to get the time signature in your head. I used the opening bend in the guitar solo, and the sustained note at the ending of the song to try to 'catch' the rate setting. What makes it so difficult to match up effects like Tremolo and Vibratone, is that you cannot synchronize them, and when the Depth settings are in the extreme, the effect plays tricks on your ears. The settings are at the very edge of pitch=bending which can throw you off if you don't mentally tune it out.

I'm not sure what kind of program can open Excel documents, if Microshaft Word can open it, then I should be able to take a look at it. I can definitely open pdf files since I have everything from Adobe. Where would I find this spreadsheet?

Thanks you,

Harley 8)

Thank you Mike,

Bill emailed me the pdf doc for the spreadsheet, and I've been trying to get to it to try out the presets in there. It's been a hectic week around here. I'll be trying these settings out and I'm sure that they'll inspire new programs for me which of course, I'll be posting those here too if I like how my edits turn out.
Thank you for the addy, I'll download and save it if I can't open it on this machine.

--Bill, thank you VERY much for the email :!: I'll be getting into those as soon as possible.
