Ok Mike,

Here is one that is much cleaner, and it's very close to Eric Johnson's Dirty Clean tone that I hear on many of his compositions. I actually did this one by accident, I was going for a different sound and after I created it, then I happened to try it with one of Eric's songs and it just fit perfectly. Is'nt it fun when you are after tone "A" but come up with tone "B" instead? Enough banter, here it is:

Hexxe 1:
Amp: Dynatouch4
Gain: 1.3
Volume: 7.5
Bass: 7.8
Mids: 10.0
Treb: 2.4
Comp: OFF
Timb: None
Gate: Low
FX:
FX: Tape Delay
Level: 4.3
Dly Time: 300Ms
Fdback: 2.5
Flutter: 9.5
Brightness:6.0
Reverb: Spring
Rvb Lvl: 3.3

Have fun with this one

Hi Again Mike,

Ok, this one WAS inspired by Eric Johnson, on his instructional video "The Art of Guitar" In part 6 called Phraseology, Eric demonstrates a very clean sound with a lush Reverb and Echo that is very subtle but quite effective. I wanted to get a tone like that in my G-Dec and this is what I came up with:

Lush Clean:
Amp: Blackface1
Gain: 9.0
Volume: 9.0
Bass: 10.0
Mids: 8.1
Treb: 4.0
Comp: OFF
Timbre: Full Body
Gate: Low
FX:
FX: Ducking Dly
FX Lvl: 5.0
Delay Time: 725Ms
Fdback: 4.7
Release: 6.4
Response: 7.1
Reverb: Arena
Rvb Level: 5.0

It's ironic, the amp EQ settings produce the same tone that I get from my Silverface Twin Reverbs, only the reverb in this is so lush, it makes me want to play all day in clean mode. It's great for Jazz and very clean Blues and Rock tones that you might need. Enjoy

Hello Again Mike,

Next up:A classic Hard Rock Stratocaster tone. I really like this one a lot because is seems to fit into so many different songs so well. I have two versions of this in my G-Dec, one is dry with no effects, and the other is with the effects that I use for solos. I'm posting the complete preset with the effects, but to get the dry tone, all you need to do is go to FX, and dial in "None" for FX Type, and the same for Reverb Type. This one is called "Stratodrive1" the dry version is just "Stratodrive". You'll find that this one is very friendly to just about all the practical guitar effects types available in the G-Decs ( Chorus, Flange, Phaser, and combination effects groups). You may have to tweak the Amp EQ a little depending on the effects you choose.

Stratodrive1:
Amp: British3
Gain: 9.5
Volume: 8.3
Bass: 7.6
Mids: 7.4
Treb: 5.0
Comp: Medium
Timb: Bright Lite
Gate: High
FX:
FX: Ducking Dly
FX Lvl: 6.8
Dly Time: 360Ms - 480Ms
Fdback: 4.5
Release: 3.2
Response: 6.2
Reverb: Large Plate
Rvb Lvl: 2.1

*** I use different delay times depending on the tempo of the songs I'm playing. Faster solos I use shorter delay times, and more relaxed solos, longer delay times to put the echoes in the right places. I use a wide range of delay times because of my playing technique. Play around with it, you can't mess it up, you can only come up with a different effects setting  Enjoy!

Hey Mike,

I have to give credit where credit is due. This next one is actually JPD's Chicago Blues preset that he posted a while back. ( Thanks Joe!) I tweaked it a bit, and added the Vibratone effect to it and it's just a killer Blues guitar tone now.

JPD's SRV:

Amp: Tweed3
Gain: 5.0
Volume: 7.2
Bass: 6.0
Mids: 6.0
Treb: 6.2
Comp: Low
Timb: Full Body
Gate: Low
FX:
FX: Vibratone
FX Lvl: 5.0
Rotor Spd: 7.6
Doppler: 10.0
Depth: 1.0
Stereo: 8.8
Reverb: Arena
Rvb Level: 5.1

There you go. These should keep you busy for a little while, now go PLAY :!:

Thanks Bill,

I have that site saved already. I went there and discovered that I cannot open anything with my computer at the present time. I'm using an old computer that is running Windows 98SE on it and the best browser I can use is IE6.
I'll have to wait until I build a new PC and install an OS that supports current Browsers. Then, I'll get in to those presets and modify them to suit my tastes if I like any of them.

Try downloading Firefox (free) and open source spreadsheet (free) or google docs and you might be able to snag those lists.

Hey Mike,

I tried to download and install Firefox, and Google Chrome, but neither one will work with my OS. I have to upgrade my computer to an NT based OS. Unfortunately, that cannot be done on this machine. I'll explain:

You see, originally, this PC was never intended to be used online for networking. I built it specifically according to Lexicon's specs to be used with the Lexicon Core2 recording hardware. That has no drivers for NT based operating systems. I t was designed to be used with Windows 98SE only. I stuck an Ethernet card in here and a Sound Blaster Audigy sound card in here and re-configured the Hardware profile so that I could use it for networking until I build a new tower that is designed for that task. Once I do that, the Sound Blaster and Ethernet card will come out of here. All Internet security, USB, and any other function that runs in the backround in continuious operation mode will be eliminated, and this will strictly become a dedicated 128 track digital recording machine. That is what it was designed for.

IN the meantime, since I don't have the benefit of sampling preset programs, which are written by others, I can only use my own ears and imagination to create programs for the G-Decs, which is how I've been doing it. I just start from scratch, and create an amp tone according to what I'm hearing in my head, and I just keep tweaking the G-Dec until I get the tone I hear in my head, out of the speaker. That's how I've been coming up with the presets that I've created.

I don't really know how I'm doing with them until someone else tells me that they like them, or that I should make some corrections. That's why I'm happy to post them in here. I'd love to hear the evaluation of my presets from other people's perspectives. That'll help me understand what I'm doing a bit more. For what it's worth, I'm also a member of the ADA Forums because aside from Fender, I've also been a long time ADA devotee, and I have extensive editing knowledge in digitally programmed guitar amplification systems. It would seem that I have a gift for not only being able to come up with good guitar tones in MIDI programmable preamps, but being an owner of an extensive number of vintage tube guitar amps, I also have the benefit of A/B-ing between the actual amplifiers and the digital reproductions, to create vintage guitar amp tones in the newer techonology realm. I'm thinking of attempting the same thing with the G-Dec 15 and the G-Dec 30.
Then again, I also enjoy creating what I call "Wild Tones" which are the ones that just come out of nowhere. I'm flexible

Try the presets I've posted, tell me what you think, and if there's something you want in specific, try to describe or explain it to me, and I'll see what I can come up with. I enjoy messing around with amps like these. I don't know if you are familiar with this, but The ADA MP-2 is one of the most complex preamps ever made, and I seem to have mastered it to a certain degree. This may explain why I find the G-Dec amps so easy to work with. For me, these are as simple as the MP-1's to edit and progam.

Thank you Harley, Mike and Bill. I have been playing with and enjoying the posted presets and would like some reaction to one that I have been tinkering with.

Amp. Gain. Vol. Bass Mid. Treb. Comp. Timb. Gate
Acoustic 8.3 8.0 4.7 5.4 7.9 Off Brite/Lite Off

There are no F/X in the mix, but you can add on when the muse dictates. I use this setting with a Nashville Tele and to my ear it comes close to a Champ XD. especially when using the center pup. Harley you were talking about being able to do A/B tests, how close does this come?

Cheers,
John.E

John, I apologize about the misleading statement regarding my ability to A/B actual amp tones with the G-Decs. My collection of amplifiers are all vintage tube models that range between the years of 1959 - 1973. My comparisons I mentioned are for my attempts to re-create the vintage tones in the G-Decs.

I did however try your posted settings, and I found that this one is very easily duplicated on a 1969 Champ, 1970 Princeton Reverb, and 1973 Vibrolux Reverb( re-worked to 1965 Schematics ). I got this same crisp tone identical in all three amps at different power levels. I'm sure I can also get this tone from a 1969 Twin Reverb as well, but I just did'nt pull it out to try it yet. I don't own a Champ XD, so I'm afraid I can't be certain about that. I hope my reply helps you in some way.

Hey Bill,

I tried out your "After Dark" settings, and I like it a lot!

I tried this with two different guitars, since the Texas Specials sounded a little muddy, I went to another Strat with '61 pickups in it and nailed the tone to a "T". Just the right amount of twang in it.
I played along with the song, and I heard a few things in it that I thought needed a little tweaking, so I took the liberty of making a few changes. I hope you don't mind. Please give it a go and let me know what you think.

After Dark 1

Amp: Tweed1
Gain: 4.0
Vol: 9.5
Bass; 8.7
Mids: 6.3
Treb; 6.3
Comp: Low
Timb: Full Body
Gate: Off

FX:

FX: Tremolo
Level: 6.6
Rate: 4.2
Depth: 10.0
Cycle: 7.9
Release: 5.0
Reverb: '63 Spring
Rvb Lvl: 3.9

When the Lead guitar kicks in, I know he's using a Mosrite Fuzz pedal and a Wah pedal ( most likely Vox ), but I press the "Amp" Soft Key and switch the Amp Type to Tweed3, and it just sounds wild! Tremolo is a difficult effect to capture when you are playing at the same time, but I believe I'm pretty close to the rate he's using.

Harley 8)

P.S. I'm going to go through those settings Mike posted from the 'spreadsheet' (?), and see what I can do with those. I really like this one though, thank you for posting it.
