Grrove Monkey has partnered with Cakewalk and now offers some great MIDI loops for creating backing tracks.

Thanks for this. I didn't really like it straight from the box. Theses settings work great! :)

Hey Mike,

I'm glad I looked through the Forum before starting a new thread on this topic. Here is a preset I created on the Exec, then transferred it to the 30, and it works extremely well for al my Strats. From the vintage single coils to the ultra hot X-1 Strat, my Stratocaster solos have never screamed like this.
Warning: This is NOT for the timid.

Name: Stratoballs
Amp: Dynatouch3
Gain: 6.4
Vol: 6.7
Bass: 7.5
Mids: 10.0
Treb: 2.0
Comp: Low
Timbre: Bright Lite
Gate: Low
Effects:
Ducking Delay
FX Level: 6.8
Dly Time: 480Ms
Feedback: 4.5
Release: 3.2
Response: 6.2
Reverb: Spring
Reverb Level: 2.5

Front Panel Volume : 3-5
Tone : 5

For a dry version of this with no effects that is great for Crunch rhythms or leads, Set the FX, and Reverb to "None" and change the Timbre to "Full Stack"

Rhythm Patterns:
Rockbluz, (108 Bpm)
Rock101,
Aerowalk,
Metal,
Double Shuffle,
5 on 4,
Kid, (100 Bpm)
Rock,
Steely,
Speed,
16 Hats,
...and if you really want to get nuts:
Ska

Enjoy!
Let me know what you think.

Hi Harley, I dialed in your "Stratoballs" patch and was very impressed. I almost forgot how much fun this amp was to tweak.

What else ya got...yer battin' 150% bro! 8)

Man, I hate the presets. Way too over processed and noisy. I tweaked almost all of them and tured them into tweed and blackface variations. Some people love all the gain and echo, it's just not for me. I have various tempo and key changes on most of the blues based backing tracks.

That's the beauty of the GDec, you can change and save parameters to your style of playing.

63Supro,

I can certainly understand your point about the factory presets, and they did not come as a suprised to me at all, Fender, just like any other company that offers a little box with a great big bang to it, will usually set these things to the extreme just so you can see how far you can go yourself. Some of those presets are too whacked to be useful in any context, but others offer me a challenge. I'm not a Country, or Latin Jazz, Reggae, or Ska, type of guitar player. Yet with the tones and rhythm patterns in the G-Dec's, I find myself trying to play in these styles, using my own style and phrasings. Playing in that style is hard enough for me, but do try it with the factory tones and make it sound good, is even harder. I have suprised myself though, because I hear myself improving with these "alien" styles of guitar playing.
It's true it can be tweaked to suit your style and taste in tones, and just as true that another beauty of the G-Dec's is that it can make you improve your skills and increase your musical vocabulary.
No other amplifier in the world that I've owned or played through has ever offered something like this.

Hi Mike,

I have a few other tones in my G-Dec's that I like to play with, they are very different from Stratoballs though, even though some of the others evolved from that program. I'm off for the next few days, so I'll come back here and post them.
I appreciate your feedback though. So far, the only drawback to the G-Dec I can think of is: When you are sitting around and playing with yourself, (be nice), there's no one around to comment on how good or bad it sounds. This is very helpful to me. Thank you.

It's a shame it doesn't come with a few classic Fender presets with no effects to use as a starting point instead of having to turn off a million effects and use that as a default. Seasoned (geezer) players use these things too. :D

If you'd like me to, I can try write a few of those, and use my own amps to A/B the settings with.

Harley, based on that last preset, I'll try anything that you're willing to share. Nice work too!

I understand 63supro, it's one of those things and it is what it is...

I think this has been posted before, but, mygdec.com has a spread sheet of about 300 sets tat range from the plain Bassman to the exotic.
I have found these to be pretty handy in getting close to what I want, then its just a tweak or two..

Yes Bill, there are two spreadsheets, one is a 34kb preset list and the other is a 112kb patches list.

In my opinion, none of them sound as good as what Harley has posted and I'm looking forward to more of his 'custom' patches. :)

Hi Mike,

Sorry to keep you waiting on these, I know you're looking forward to them. Here is one I came up with recently using my X-1 Strat. It's based on George Lynch's current lead tone, but it's geared towards the sound of single coils, which is where I came up with the name for this preset: Lynched Mob:
Amp: Dynatouch4
Gain: 9.0
Volume: 7.5
Bass: 10.0
Mids: 9.5
Treb: 4.4
Comp: OFF
Timbre: Full Body
Gate: Medium
FX:
FX: Phaser Dly
FX Lvl: 4.8
Rate: 2.0
Depth: 7.5
Dly Time: 430Ms
Fdback: 3.1
Rvb: None

Front panel Volume:3-5 Tone: 5
I always leave my front panel tone at "5" and the Volume is usually between "3-5" so I won't be posting these settings anymore. All of my presets are written like that. Sometimes I'll crank the Volume up to "7" but not often.
*** This preset also works very well with dropped "D" tunings, and I love the way it seems to swirl my solos in the air when I'm cooking!

Next up: Lets get into the realm of Eric Johnson.

P.S. Who says you can't play Metal on a Strat?
