I have read the P250 Owner's Manual, but probably am not savvy enough to know-- Can TWO P250 systems be chained in some way? That is, use one as the main input for mics or auxiliary (CD) stuff and the other as a second amplifier?

I get that I could use one head as a the main amp and drive all four speakers. But, since I have two complete systems, I am wanting to use both power heads for increased output. Any help appreciated. (Keep in mind I am a novice :)

Additional question: Is there a way to connect my P250 system to a subwoofer for a little more impact when playing CDs, iPod, etc.?

You can take an RCA patch cord and connect the "Tape Out" ports of one Passport to the RCA ports of either of the two stereo input channels of the other Passport, connecting two speaker outputs to each of the two Passports. You are right. You will get more volume that way than you would if you put all four in one Passport. Twice the wattage might not be exactly the same as "twice as loud", but it's pretty close.

To be precise, that's "Tape Out" (left and right) patched into "Stereo-1" (left and right) or "Stereo-2" (left and right). All the mics and other sound sources have to tie into the first Passport. Anything plugged into the second Passport will come out of 2 speakers instead of 4. Anything plugged into the first Passport will come out of all four speakers.

There is no volume control for the "Tape Out" level. It's just the sum of the volumes of each of the four mono inputs and the two stereo inputs of the first Passport. Turning the Master Volume up or down on the first Passport has no effect on the volume of the Tape Out. You can control the volume of the input Stereo-1 or Stereo-2 of the second Passport, so long as the Tape Out of the first Passport is not so loud that you have clipping, even with the input volume turned down. If so, turn down each input channel in the mix to get the overall volume in Tape Out lower. It's good to play with this before your live performance with an audience.

As for the subwoofer, no, without extraordinary wizardry, this unit does not support a subwoofer. The larger Passports have a built in "crossover" (a circuit that sends low notes to the subwoofer and doesn't send those low notes to the other speakers while sending them the higher notes). The P250, PD250 and 250 do not have a built-in crossover, and lack any "Sub" ports to plug a subwoofer into.

The purpose of a crossover is not just to boost the bass. It's to eliminate the load of the bass from the other speakers. Most of your wattage goes to play lowest frequencies. Remove the low frequencies from the signal going to the power amp and suddenly, those higher frequencies get a LOT louder.

Basically, if you want thump, you want overall more wattage than these units have, and you probably want to move up to a larger amp, like one of the bigger Passports.

Thanks, Roadie, for a clear explanation and some good procedures to follow. I will give them a try and see (hear) the result. I understand I can "chain" the two Passports... but no sub is possible. I really appreciate your time and expertise!
