Hi, I have the Passport 500 and love it for our small acoustic group.
We lead a kirtan which is a group sing-a-long. Is there a way to record the room in addition to ourselves? The built-in recorder works great for us, but we don't get the full room sound of the participants singing.

I do not want to mic the room and play it live through the speakers while we are playing, but it would be nice to have them on the recording.
Anyone have a suggestion?
Thanks

The passport has one stereo bus. Period. That feeds the speakers, the USB recorder, and the Stereo Out port. You can't record something on the USB recorder that doesn't go through the speakers.

You need an external recorder that can take the signal fron the Stereo Out port and mix it with a microphone aimed at the crowd, or a small mixer between the Stereo Out port and a microphone aimed at the crowd. Consider an external I/O box with a USB or FireWire connection to mix down while recording on a computer. Consider researching digital recorders that might be able to do this, with or without modest mixers.

Thank you, I have a zoom recorder that I will attach to the stereo out and point at the room. This should create a mix of the room and the passport output.

If you haven't used the Zoom like this before, make sure to test it before your event. Play something from your USB FLASH drive on the Passport 500Pro (just to have something playing through the system), and patch in the Zoom and make sure you can make it mix the mic and cable signals. Some of these units disable the mics when you plug in a cable.

If it doesn't work, just use the zoom from the back of the hall to record both the crowd and your music through the mics alone. You can get a pure recording of your music as you've already done with the USB recorder.

Thank you again for your helpful advice. I so appreciate it.
I will do just what you suggest to test it. My zoom has 4 channel recording ability, I just need to be sure to set it to that setting before recording.
Thanks again,
Susan
