This is more less directed to Contra. I've printed out a lot of good info I might need in the future that you submitted, Actually a lot of your post should be stickies cause I see time after time they are re asked, and good ol Contra answers them again. If I ever need monitors you say you use the Mackies but now that the new Mini Passport has come out would that be an option to use?

The Passport Mini is definitely a valid option for a monitor for any Fender Passport. In particular, the 1/8" input makes it simple to plug an 1/8" patch cable between the Stereo Out port on a Passport to the 1/8" input on the Passport Mini.

There are two monitor-oriented features of the Mackey SRM 150 that the Passport Mini lacks, though:

1. Mackey = 150 watts output. Passport Mini = 7 watts output.

2. The Mackey mounts on a microphone stand so that it can be placed within arm's length of the performer, whether sitting or standing. The Passport Mini offers a "tilt back" stand (the carrying handle can prop the amp back at an angle, up toward a seated performer). At 7 watts, a standing performer in a performance environment (a bar, a restaurant, a gym) probably can't hear the Passport Mini over all the sound coming out of the PA system.

Otherwise, these two are about the same size and weight. The Mackey costs about $100 more.

To be fair, recognize that the Passport Mini isn't designed to be a monitor. It's designed to be a practice amp or a street-musician amp. It has its own reverb, and a pile of effects so that someone can load this little wonder full of batteries and take it on a street corner and put out a tip jar and amaze passersby. You can pretend to be a session player. Plug your iPod into that 1/8" jack, plug your electric guitar into the 1/4" jack, and plug a microphone into the XLR jack and add yourself to any music-minus-one you like. You could become the next viral YouTube video at a pedestrian mall near you.

The Mackey has NO reverb, NO effects, and it would take a LOT of D cells to pump out 150 watts, so there is no battery option for the Mackey because it is not designed to do what the Passport Mini is designed to do. They are not competitive in each other's category of device. One is a can opener. The other is a toaster. Don't open cans with a toaster, and don't toast bread with a can opener.

The Passport Mini is a beautiful little device. At 7 watts, it gives the sound quality you are looking for as a street musician or as a practicing musician, at a volume level that won't result in fines for disturbing the peace in a public place. It won't result in your parents kicking you out of the house. It's a sweet little thing that is probably more useful to more people than the Mackey.

But I have three of the Mackeys and none of the Passport Minis because I don't play electric guitar. I don't go downtown and pick up a few coins in a place that doesn't offer me AC power. I'm not a normal person. I amplify sound for performers in a stage or gym setting with AC power, and the monitors have to be loud enough to be heard by people sitting behind, in my case, up to 1200 watts of amplified sound. The 150 watts makes more sense than 7 watts in that environment.

I hope this helps. And I hope lots of people enjoy their Passport Minis.

I'm really sorry I didn't answer you sooner, I'm the type of guy if I send you an e-mail, text you a phone message, or leave you a phone message and if you don't get back to me you'll never hear from me again - I have zero tolerance for people that don't reply . But I retirered a few days after I posted this and of course when I got home my life style changed and completely forgot to answer you cause nobody more then you deserves respect for the way you help us out here.So any way as soon as you mentioned 7 watts-- no no no that's not for me. So going to go with what you have -- the Mackey's-- I played solo in a pub and the speakers were in front of me and man you sure can't hear the same sound as when your practicing at home with the speakers in front of you. So again thanks for the good reply contra. Louis --- alberta
