I just purchased the 500 to use with our karaoke Machine and it's unreal! Would there be any reason that I would need a Subwoofer with that setup, or is there anything that I would need to add to it?!

Learning, thanks in advance!

It all depends on the kind of sound you are looking for. The bass on the 500 is already good; fine for acoustic music. Disco/Techno/Hip Hop and anything else with heavy thump you are supposed to feel in your chest is better served with a powered subwoofer. Some also call this an "active" subwoofer. Basically, it's a subwoofer that takes line level input and uses its own amplifier to drive the bass. Something on the order of a 400 watt subwoofer ought to do the trick.

I use one for techno music on some of my gigs. I don't bother bringing it for acoustic gigs. The subwoofer weighs more than the Passport and it's bulkier to haul around. When I plug it into the "Sub Out" port, the Passport becomes louder because it stops using its wattage to drive bass notes when you plug something into that port.

So, unless you are playing bass-heavy music and you want it really loud, you are probably fine with the Passport 500 all on its own. This is not a home stereo. This is a PA system.

Contra, what software is needed to be able to use my computer for karaoke and DJ parties? Right now I have my karaoke machine lined into my RCA ports on the Passport? We are having a blast!

Thanks!

You didn't mention whether you have a Mac or a Windows-based computer (or Linux or a tablet or whatever). Combine that with me not being familiar with karaoke software in general, and I'm not equipped to give you a good answer. I just typed "karaoke" into the App store on my Mac and came up with seven entries, though most seem to be DJ software with perhaps some Karaoke features, and one is called "Karaoke Lyrics", and it apparently just displays the lyrics you already have in iTunes. It seems to be mostly for training purposes and not for actual performance.

Your Karaoke machine is likely better than any of these.

I'd recommend using Google to look for reviews of software. Look for something like "Windows karaoke software review" or "Mac karaoke software review". Surely, someone has done this, whether available in the App Store or not.
