I purcahsed a new Fender Passport Pro 150 on Black Friday. Works great with all my gear. However, the main Passport Unit itself (not the speakers) makes a whirring, or motor, or fan type noise. This noise is quite audible as far as 6 feet away from the unit. The noise is not transmitted to the speakers, the speaker response is clean. I tested all the inputs and it works fine, with great sound clarity. I even tested the unit with no calbes connected, just the 2 speakers on speaker stands, each about 5 feet away, and it still makes that noise. Once you start playing guitar, of course, you cannot hear the Passport main unit making the noise. As soon as you stop playing, you can hear it again. Is this normal? Or do I have a defective unit? Any ideas or feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have a Fender Passport 300 I recently purchased a couple months ago. After I use the unit five or 10 minutes, I hear a fan come on inside the mixer. Its not very loud but i can also hear it 6 feet away. I have heard similar sounding fan units in other amplifiers which have internal fans. I am guessing that your 150 unit has a similar fan to keep the internal circuitry cool. Interestingly enough, I also recently purchased a Gemini 15 inch powered subwoofer to use with my Passport. It does not have a fan for its amplifer and a number of users on the internet have advised having a small fan blowing on the back of it because after a few hours of use it may start to overheat. I can definitely see the efficaciousness of having a fan of some sort on any type of amplification system.

Maybe someone from Fender can give you more definite information.

Thank you for your help. Yes, I was able to finally contact Fender, and they have informed me that the fans inside the Passport mixers are normal, so the product is working as desgined. Thanks again for your insight.
