In order to connect a powered monitor to the STEREO OUT of my Passport 300 Pro, I need to know if the driver circuitry is protected internally from having the two stereo signals connected together. This will happen if I use a 1/8" stereo jack to 1/4" mono plug adapter that I purchased from Radio Shack (part # 274-348). In other words, this adapter connects tip and ring together. Can I use this adapter without fear of damaging the STEREO OUT circuitry?

If this is not a good solution, does anyone have a good idea how to do this?

In reference to the above post about connecting a powered monitor to the STEREO OUT of Passport 300, Matt of Fender kindly sent me a schematic for the Passport 300. The STEREO OUT circuitry shows that any active element in this section is isolated from the output connector by a minimum of 220 ohms, and the op amps are isolated by 1.2k ohms in series with 47 μf blocking capacitors. This means that connecting tip and ring should not be able to damage anything here.

I am happy to report that all worked well when I tested it. I plugged a 1/8" stereo cable (male on both ends) into the STEREO OUT connector, and got voice out of the speakers and a signal on the cable when I spoke into the microphone (I used an oscilloscope on the cable). Then I inserted the adapter (female 1/8" stereo, male 1/4" mono) on the end of the cable, and connected the scope to the male mono plug. When I spoke into the microphone, a signal appeared on the scope, and voice came out of the speakers.

This means that with this setup one can connect a powered monitor which has a 1/4" mono input connector. I will be using this on my gig this Saturday with my vocalist's hot spot, which she says has a 1/4" connector.

Referring to the above post, where I tested an adapter system with microphone and oscilloscope, I am happy to report that it worked with my vocalist's Hot Spot monitor on my band's gig yesterday. The band is the Nuclear Jazz Quarktet, and you can hear some of our music on http://nuclearjazzquarktet.com.

Been there done that! (see Fender 300 Unbiased Review also on this forum)
Bought a pair of Alto Truesonic SP112A 12” active full range cabs.
I’ve made up connector leads so I can connect one cab (3.5mm Stereo out to ¼” Mono Jack plug giving a mixed mono sound)
Or the pair of cabs (3.5mm Stereo out to 2 separate ¼” Mono jacks giving a true stereo sound)
Because the stereo line out socket on the passport operates independently of the main volume control you have independent control of the signal being sent to the active cabs. This means that you need to increase the master volume on the PA AND the Line out volume control proportionally if you want to maintain the same ratio of mix between the original and added speakers.
If you connect your active cabs to the dedicated sub out socket n the PA you will lose their full range capability but they will rise and fall with the master volume on the PA itself. To obtain the right amount of bass to suit your needs you just adjust the volume controls on the active cabs.
If you love your Passport but struggle in larger venues this is a definite solution! Try one active cab first, you can always add another if you still feel you need more power.
I chose 12” cabs for a good compromise but a pair of 10” might suit your application and would be nice an portable. Alternatively you could try a single 15” cab! Also 8” active cabs connected to the line out would make great foldback monitors. :D
