I have a PD-250 that is a few years old - I noticed one speaker is not as loud as the other, by far. I'm going to guess the woofer or middle tweeters are out.

In testing, I made sure it wasn't a dual-stereo mode problem. My simple test that clinched it for me was putting in stereo mode. You could tell the right speaker was much louder. Then I just switched cables... again the right speaker was much louder. Also tried this test with just one speaker. It's obvious. I have a lame duck speaker.

Any ideas on how to tackle this? I'm thinking a new PD-500 may be better than putting money into repair... Thanks.

I'm not a repair guy. It might be worthwhile to take it to a repair guy to have him test to make sure it's not just a loose wire somewhere. Maybe it can be easily and cheaply fixed.

The Passport Pro 300 is closer to what you already have, and it sounds great for acoustic music. It's a little different, in that it doesn't do stereo the same way. You don't pan mono sources left and right. Mono sources remain mono. Stereo sources (like electronic keyboards and stereo effects boxes) remain stereo. There are no pan controls.

The Passport Pro 500 gives you more volume and more channels. It also gives you the ability to record by simply plugging a USB FLASH drive into a USB port provided. I have both and use them together as often as I do separately.

Both of them uses a 1/8" stereo plug where your 250 used two RCA jacks.

Maybe you can use the dead speaker as an excuse for getting newer, more powerful gear. I have no problem with that. You've probably gotten good use out of the 250.
