Hi, I'm connecting a powered monitor (to be used as a fold-back) via the stereo out jack on my Passport 500 Pro, however it has been cutting in and out lately during performances.

Does anyone have any clues on why this would be?

The monitor and connecting leads are all good, and I've also tried other leads and monitors to check that it wasn't these, but the issue remains. (I have the output on the stereo out very low too - around 2-3, and the Master output generally around 12 o-clock)

Anyone have any ideas/remedies?

Gratefully,
Mahavan

It might be good to get a cable tester. A friend has one that tests a wide range of cable types and shows not only bad connections, but intermittent breaks.

Meanwhile, if you've already used different cables, it suggests that the common issue is the port on the Passport. But before you contact Fender to have them do a repair (which you might not need), you might try changing the setup to turn up the Stereo Out and turn down your powered monitor.

There's no reason to push any of these signals to the top or bottom end of the volume setting on either end of the connection. As is, you are sending a weak signal through the cable and then amplifying it a lot at the monitor end. Why do this? You are amplifying any noise or disruption introduced by the cable.

For myself, I buy really nice cables for this function. Just because you can get a 1/8" patch cable for a couple bucks doesn't mean you'll be as happy with it as you would if you got a Monster cable or better. I went to Crutchfield and bought the best 1/8" patch cables they carried. Maybe I wasted my money, but it seemed like a short-sighted place to scrimp considering the cost of the equipment plugged into each side of the cable.

Nice points here, thanks a lot for that.

I'll give your suggestions a try :)
