I just rec'd my new Passport 500 Pro.. and when I insert the flash drive... all four buttons.. continually flash and I am not able to stop them, or record. I formatted the flash drive to ensure its compatibility, but that made no difference.. just keep getting the four flashing lights..

Hello,

What type/brand of flash drive are you using? If possible, could you send a link to the exact piece you are using? Also, have you tried following the instructions in the manual to format the USB drive using the 500 Pro?

You really need to describe the hardware you are trying to use. If you can't do that, nobody can help you.

If the FLASH drive you are using has special auto-loading security software, it's not going to work. If the external hard drive you are trying to work is formatted with NTFS or one of the native Mac OS X file systems, it's probably not going to work.

I'm pretty sure that the Passport 500 Pro is expecting FAT32 as the partition's file system. This is the most common file system for FLASH drives, since it can be read from and written to by both Windows based PCs and Macs. It's the lowest common denominator. Likely, the Passport is using a completely proprietary OS, but it would be set up to use what was, when the Passport was created, the most common file system for FLASH drives.

Some FLASH drives encrypt everything on the drive and have proprietary Windows-based software that auto loads when you plug in the drive, requiring you go give a password before it will let you access anything on the drive. That's not going to work on a Passport. It's not running Windows. It won't autoload any software from the drive (which is a good thing, since you don't want some hacker running malware on your Passport).

So, if you would please describe what size and model of FLASH drive you have, or what file system you are using on your external hard drive, then people here can begin to help you. Until then, nobody can make progress.

I'm having exactly the same issue with recording with a flash drive. I got the Pass Port 500 for xmas a few days ago and really like it. What i did is, i went to Staples today and bought a USB 8GB drive - the name on the box was Staples Hi-speed 2.0. I took it right out of the wrapper brand new and followed the Passport directions in the manual and as soon as i put the drive in, all 4 buttons started to flash like the above post. I had a couple of different drives with me -- 2 were" Kinston" usb's and one was "store'n' go", and all did the same thing when i put them in - flashed none stop and the only way i could get it to stop is take out the drive. Hope this is a good explaination--- Thanks Louis -- Alberta Canada

Has anyone who has this problem tried formatting the drive using the instructions on page 9 of the Passport 500 Pro owner's manual? If you can't find the manual:

http://support.fender.com/manuals/pro_a ... manual.pdf

Will it format? If it won't format, you should probably contact tech support more directly or contact the store you bought the Passport from. If it does format, but you continue to get the flashing on the Passport's buttons, then my advice is the same. In either case, it sounds like you have a unit with a hardware problem.

I have a Passport 500 Pro and I recorded onto a 16GB Kingston FLASH drive last night with no problem, so this is not a generic problem with the model.

Man am i glad you mentioned "Kingston` I had a (Kingston) with some work related items on it so what i did is cut them right out of the Kingston thumb nail and stuck it into my documents which now left the drive empty. Put the flash drive into the Passport and it didn't flash and is now ok,and that tells me that if you buy a Kingston it should work cause the Staples brand flash drive did not----Thanks a bunch
