I have an older Passport 500 whose output has always been considerably stronger in the left channel that in the right. I typically have to position the balance control somewhere between 9 and 10 o'clock on the balance control to get the output to come out balanced.

Is this something I can correct myself with some gain control I'M not aware of (or some other adjustment)? Or would it be a shop repair to get something like this corrected, if I decide to go that route? Thanks.

Hi,

Is the unit you are referring to a PD-500? If so, where do you have your master levels set to? Being that this unit has a separate master control for the left and right, the settings to balance the level of sound coming out of each channel may differ slightly because there is tolerance in the potentiometer. Have you tried using the Master Volume controls rather than the balance to fix your issue? Hope this helps.

Byron-
Yes, it is a PD-500 and yes, I typically use the masters to control the final output, and I can usually get a suitable balanced output. But the output is so much stronger on the left that it doesn't seem correct, and I'm sure that if I need very high levels of output, I must be giving up some volume because only one channel is being fully pushed. I've never seen the degree of this imbalance on any other piece of audio I've ever owned.

From your initial post, it didn't seem like it was a drastic difference. However, if it is indeed a very large difference, and this is consistent regardless of the channel or input, then perhaps there is a problem with your unit. How long have you owned this unit? Has it been this way since the day of purchase, or a problem that just surfaced recently? Moreover, did you buy this unit new or second hand? I would suggest calling consumer relations so they may help to trouble shoot your issue live. If they are unable to help you, they should be able to help you to get your unit serviced if it is deemed necessary.
