Is it possible to use the channel / mixer / amp that comes with the Passport 150 with more powerful speaker(s)?

I am fine with the volume now but if I needed more power in the future could I do this or would I have to re-buy everything?

I am thinking it might be better to return the 150 and buy a separate AMP / Mixer that can be used with any speaker instead of this all in one system if I can't upgrade the speakers in the future.

Thanks,

Bill

The volume you get is mostly from the amp. In theory, some speakers are more efficient than others, so you could get slightly more sound perhaps from a more perfect set of speakers, but these all-in-one units have already had the speakers and amp engineered to match each other. You probably won't do better with different speakers and that amp.

If you want more volume, consider getting a Passport 300 or even a 500. The smaller unit you already have will be easier to carry for small gigs, and the larger unit will do well for ones where you need more volume, and you may decide that for even bigger sound, you can combine the two so you haven't wasted the investment you've already made.

I have a 300 and a 500 and sometimes I use them separately, and other times I connect them together, either to allow me to have a different monitor mix than the house speakers, or just to give more volume.

Keep in mind that buying separate components requires you to balance the two (make sure the speakers match the amp -- something already done for you with the Passports), and requires you to hall a bunch of separate pieces to and from the gigs. It also means you have to fit them in your vehicle.
