Likely, either way I do this will be okay. I'm looking for an informed opinion.

I have a new Passport 500 and a 300. I also have a 400 watt Gemini powered 15" subwoofer. I'm doing sound for a techno-contra with heavy electronic beat music, plus a caller who needs to be heard clearly.

I mix the DJ and caller into the 500 and put the speakers outboard of the DJ's table. I use a 1/8" stereo patch cable from the 500's "Stereo Out" to one of the stereo channels of the 300 and put the 300's speakers in a straight line with the 500's, out near the walls (I bought longer speaker cables). Putting them in a straight line theoretically reduces phase issues.

Should I plug the subwoofer into the 500, or the 300?

On one hand, it's nice to have the 500 kick in even louder because it's not carrying the bass, and the 300 just fills in for people off to the side of the 500's speakers.

On the other hand, the 500's 10" woofers can probably take the bass better than the 300's 8" woofers, so plugging the subwoofer into the 300 gives the 300 a more significant volume boost, and the 500 can more effectively handle those frequencies between subwoofer range and the tweeters. I'm assuming the subwoofer's signal will be pretty much identical regardless of which Passport it is plugged into.

I'll note that in the dark with black lights and glow sticks, pointing the mixers on two Passports side by side out to the crowd adds nicely to the light show, especially since the white patch cord that connects them really glows under black light.

I really love my Passports. Your engineers did a terrific job of working the design compromises well for something that is portable, versatile, sturdy, easy on the eyes, simple to operate, crisp and clear, and right-sized for most acoustic venues up to a basketball court in size. I smile every time I stick these light speakers up on a stand. They sound as good as speakers that are far less fun to put overhead on a pole because they weigh more than this entire system. My back thanks you.

Even when I need more volume than the 500 puts out, in terms of cost and portability, I'm convinced I prefer to run multiple, patched-together Passports than to get a bigger system. Room acoustics are less of an issue with more low-powered speakers than with fewer high-powered ones.

So, where should I patch in my subwoofer?
