Has anyone had success finding a more compact speaker stand solution for Passport PRO 150 speakers than the usual steel/aluminum tripod stands? I'm looking for a stand that collapses to about half the length of the USS/On Stage stand offerings.

I'm using a fold-up cart to carry the PRO 150 and an mic/accessory bag. The stands I have are relatively heavy and collapse only to the length of the legs, which makes getting through doorways, elevator doors, and other obstacles a real challenge.

One option that works is a dual speaker mount and a single tripod stand, but when I want greater coverage or separation, I'm stuck hauling around a heavy, bulky speaker bag with everything else.

I love the stability of the heavy-duty tripod stands, but for most gigs I could really use a more portable solution.

Ideas?

Sorry you are not getting more reasonable replies. The problem here is that the regular speaker stands that you are talking about are already designed to be as portable as possible for the function they provide. They hold speakers anywhere from waist-high to above-the-head, and they are not easily knocked over. The aluminum ones are remarkably light.

I got a canvas bag to carry mine, with room to slip in a couple mic stands as well. Anything more compact would not be stable at the height that most people want speakers mounted.

Otherwise, you just pull up a chair or table and put the speakers directly on them with no stands. If you have a raised stage at all, you might also just put them on the stage floor. The angled sides on the Passport speakers makes them somewhat functional in the classic "wedge" monitor position, laying on their sides.

Meanwhile, I personally still think the classic speaker stand is worth the hassle and hard to beat.

Thanks for the reply...I agree with your assessment across the board, but I was just wondering if someone had figured out a way to put the Passport, speaker stands, and a mic/equipment bag on a Magna Cart or similar. My problem is a very long walk from parking to specific gig. Playing a club with an easy load in? I can make an extra trip and have the convenience of the stands as you suggest.

Huge point from your post for anyone who reads this thread!

Not all tripod stands are even close to the same weight! My tripod stands must have a lot of steel in them because they are darn near 13 pounds each. Through a odd return policy, I recently ended up with a 3rd tripod stand made primarily from aluminum. It weighs closer to 7 pounds...much easier to cart around and while it may not have the same weight capacity as the heavy duty steel, it works perfectly with both the PD250 and PRO150 speaker cabinets.

Another neat thing I stumbled upon to lighten the load... Two companies I found make a dual speaker mount for passport speakers. I picked up an On Stage dual speaker bracket ($15) that fits on the tripod stand speaker pole and allows you to mount two speakers about 2 feet apart. You can angle the speakers where you want them. The dual speaker bracket weighs about 4 pounds, I guess.

So anyway, there is one alternative to two heavy tripod stands (~26 pounds) that works for some applications...a lighter tripod stand and dual speaker bracket (~11 pounds)...

I think part of my challenge is trying to stick to a simple fold up hand truck to carry too much stuff. Now I'm looking at a Rock n Roller cart option for moving stuff around...
