I'm using a PD-500. Is there a way to combine the left and right power amp inserts, so I can run both signals through my single monophonic compression unit before sending back to the left and right power amps? What would be the correct y-cable configuration for doing this?

Have you referred to the PD-500 user manual? There are diagrams with explanations for this on page 7. If this does not answer your question, please send me the model number of the unit you are trying to connect so I can get a feel for what you are trying to accomplish. Thanks!

On page 7, in the External Loop Back Configuration section (for an effects loop), it assumes that the effects processor that you're using has a left and right channel. But what if the effects processor is mono, and you want to apply it to both channels of the PA (so the effect isn't just heard in the left or right speaker). I'm trying to use my TC-Helicon Voice Tone Correct in the effects loop.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

The thing to keep in mind is that you are working with audio signals here. If you take a stereo signal and run it through a mono device, you have to combine the two signals into one in order to get it into the device. Once you've done that, it's not stereo anymore. You know that, right?

You also know that you need two special cables in order to use the effects loop ports at all, right? Each cable (one for the "left" channel and one for the "right" channel) splits into two plugs. One is "send" and the other is "return". You could get a 1/4" mono "Y" plug (one male to two female) and connect the left and right channel "sends" to go into the compressor input and connect the left and right "return" plugs to the output from the compressor and that should do it.

Since most live performances are mono anyway, this should be fine, unless you use stereo effects on any of your instruments.

What is the end result you are trying to achieve by connecting the TC Helicon device into the Effects loop? Are you trying to use this device to correct tone for multiple vocal inputs simultaneously? Just by looking at the device, it doesn't seem like that would work very well since it might have trouble detecting the pitch of multiple inputs. It seems like your best bet is to use it as directed by plugging in your microphone to the TC-Helicon device, then plugging the output of the device into one of the Mic channels.

Thank you guys for the responses. I realize that this would eliminate any stereo effect and produce an overall mono signal. I'm not using the autotune feature on this effects box, only the compression and adaptive EQ. I want to connect the box through the inserts, so I don't have to buy 4 separate boxes for the 4 separate microphones that I'm using. I think I have enough information to rig something up that will work temporarily. Long-term, I'll probaby buy a stereo compressor like the FMR RNC for this PA. Hopefully, in the future, Fender will start making these with a built in compressor, like the new Yamahas. I'll be convinced to upgrade when they do. At least they finally added a subwoofer out to the newest version. Unfortunately, my PD-500 pre-dates that feature too.

Hi Quinn,

Thanks for the feedback, we will take this into consideration on future designs. Any other feedback on controls and features are welcome as well.
