I have a Passport 300 Pro which I use with a single-mic set-up (Audio Technica AT-4033) either with a full bluegrass band (5 pieces), with one or two others, or just myself. So far, I've placed the speakers in front of me (and in front of the mic). The situations I've played in since I acquired the system last month have not required me to worry about using a monitor, but I foresee other situations in which I'll want one. What do you recommend? Can I really place the
speakers, or one speaker, behind me to effectively serve as both monitor and house speaker, or will the AT-4033 pick that up and distort?

Hi,

The passport pro systems works relatively well with the mic in front of the speakers when using a dynamic microphone, but depending on the direction of the speakers relative to your microphone, your environment, and the microphone you could run into feedback issues. Using the Condenser microphone you mentioned below, you may run into issues with feedback, in which case you would want to get a powered monitor to send the signal from the stereo out. I would suggest trying it in a practice session to see how it performs with your microphone. Hopefully this helps.

Thanks, that's what I suspected. From talking with some experienced bluegrass sound people- this mic is a favorite in bluegrass - it looks like I really won't need to use a monitor with this configuration, and the speakers can be positioned so feedback is not an issue.
