I posted in the general catagory but then it occurred to me that I should post my questions here instead .I have a new 16 GB 'Sandisk Cruzer" flash drive that I have recorded a couple of WAV files on from my PC.
When I first got the flash drive, I tried to format it using the instructions in the passport manual. I stuck it in the usb port and pressed the correct buttons but nothing happened. (the flash drive is the only thing that would light up, and it lit up like normal). So then I took it to my PC to load some WAV files to see if there was something wrong with the flash drive. They loaded and played back fine. So then, I stuck it back in the passport's usb slot and pressed play. Nothing happened. I pressed record (with a microphone on and all the volume knobs in the correct position), nothing happened. No lights on the passport were lit, ever. Only the light on the flashdrive lights up like normal.
As I explained in my first post, like an idiot, after I couldn't get the flashdrive to either format, play or record, I stuck my little "Olympus" digital voice recorder in the slot to see what would happen. All the lights on the passport flashed in unision until I took it out. Do you have a chart or something that tells us what all the flashing means?
Oh yeah, this is the first time I have tried to use the passports usb port to record. Is there a 'reset button' or seperate fuse for the record/play area?
Thanks-Maureen 911

Hi Maureen,

I am sorry you're experiencing some issues.

To our knowledge as of now there are no incompatible flash drives for the Passport 500 Pro. So if you don't mind I would like to ask you a few questions:

1. When you plug the flash drive in, can you see that all buttons flash one time only? If so, this means the unit has scanned the flash drive and is ready. This could take some time (I would give it a minute just to make sure) since you are using a 16GB drive which is pretty large (could you provide me with the exact model number if there is one on the flash drive?)

2. Does your flash drive have a password protected, encrypted section? If so, the 500 Pro will not be able to read the flash drive.

3. Are the files that are on the flash drive either mp3 files or 16bit wav files? The Passport will not support playback of 24bit files for example, even though your computer will.

4. Do you have another flash drive you can use to see if the Passport functions properly?

5. The 500 Pro will not support recording to or playback from your digital voice recorder. When all buttons flash it means exactly that, the device that is plugged in is not supported. If you want to see a chart with all the codes please contact our consumer relations department at consumerrelations@fender.com. They will be more than happy to email it to you.

I hope that we can be able to resolve your issue. Please let me know some more details by answering my questions above. Again, I am very sorry you're experiencing some issues.

Regards,
Ken
