Is there anyone out there that can help me???... I just purchased the Passport 500 and am having some challenges with volume output... I am a relative novice when it comes to PA systems, and really need help before a gig this weekend...

Love the unit for all the reasons it has to offer... but for 500 watts, I had both the channel volume and master MAXED and it still didn't sound loud to me...?

What am I doing wrong???

Thanks to anyone that can suggest a fix!

Hi, what are you using as an input source? There seems to be a common thing going on that users are plugging in electric guitars directly into the line inputs of the 500 Pro. If that is the case then please use a a guitar or bass pre-amp or amp with a line output. Or simply use a DI box plugging your guitar into a passive or active DI box and the output of the DI box into a mic input of the 500 Pro.

Please let me know what your input sources are in order for me to be able to help you in more detail. Let me know what your channel level settings are set to, etc.

The 500 Pro is our loudest Passport so far and should be plenty loud for medium sized gigs.

Thanks,
Ken

I am playing a Taylor acoustic/electric guitar and SM57's - no pre-amps. SM 57s connected by XLR jack, the guitars directly by 1/4" jack.

Thanks

Hi,

the 500 Pro should definitely be loud enough using SM57's. You should get plenty of gain setting the channel level controls to about 12-1PM with a SM57 and the master volume set to whatever loudness you prefer.

For your electric/ acoustic guitar I would recommend getting a $30 DI box and plugging your guitar into the DI box and the output of the DI box into the mic input of the 500 Pro. That will definitely get you enough gain for your guitar. Plugging a high impedance low level guitar into a line input not only won't have enough gain but will also sound muddy and dull because of the impedance mismatch.

If you like the 500 Pro, I would recommend getting a DI box for your guitars and you will be glad you did.

Hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Ken

The DI box did indeed help, as did moving to a bigger room and getting some separation from the system.

Thanks for the help!

I'm having the same problem with my new Fender Passport 500 pro. I would like to use my Fender Deluxe Strat and electric-acoustic guitar without any of the volume issues. Eventually, I would like to run multiple instruments and microphones (Shure Beta) through the Passport. What DI box would best suit my needs? Thank you for any input.
