I'm running my monitor from the "stereo out" mini jack to an xlr in.

Here's a problem I haven't experienced until last night:

We added another guitarist last night who is really good, but really loud. I could not get him out of my monitor mix. If I turn the monitor down, I can't hear myself. If I turn myself up on the board, it's too loud in the mains.

Is there a workaround for this? I'm afraid I overlooked this entirely when checking out the 500 pro....

Hi,

Are you saying that your additional guitar player was plugged into the Passport as well? If so, yes the stereo out will put out whatever is summed together from the input channels. You cannot individually send a monitor mix to the stereo out. The stereo output is independent from the speaker outputs though so you can control the overall monitor mix (Stereo out level control) and not affect the speaker output. If he's really loud going into the Passport, wouldn't he be really loud coming out of the mains of the Passport?

Could you explain the exact setup to me?

Thanks,
Ken

I might have made it sound complicated, Ken. It's really simple:

4 inputs = 2 vocal mics, 1 guitar, 1 keyboard all going into XLR inputs.

When the keys or guitars take a solo, or just get excited, they get louder.
The only way to get them out of my vocal monitor on the Passport 500 pro is to turn EVERYTHING down in the monitor mix. Problem is, I can't hear my vocals now. We don't have a sound man, so I rely on the bar staff to tell me how it sounds. I always get "it sounds great, nice even mix". That might be the case for the Main speakers, but my monitor has screaming guitar and overbearing keyboards, unless I turn the master monitor level down, or individual channels down. Then, my vocals are absolutely buried. Turn me up on my channel, I'm way too loud in the Main speakers.

This lack of functionality is something that is common in the cheapest of mixing boards. Even an $89 Behringer has 2 aux outs with volume control on each channel for the monitor.

The fact that Fender added 2 true XLR slots to the Passport 500 pro for a total of 6, and no way adjust the individual gain out to the monitor is a glaring oversight in my opinion.

I like the sound of the Passports and ease of setup. They are great for small gigs.

But, the lack of monitor controls on individual channels does not work for me and I'm going to return the Passport 500 I purchased and take a loss on the restocking fee.

Regretfully~
