Hi!

I use a Passport 250 for dj-ing from a laptop & apogee duet external sound card. Question: would the signal be improved by connecting the duet to a DI box and then connecting the DI box via XLR to the passport?

Thanks in advance for your response.

Hi,

What 250 do you have? A P-250, PD-250 or PD-250 Plus?

The outputs on the Duet are unbalanced line outputs. The Passport has balanced line inputs that can also be used for unbalanced signals of course. A stereo DI box could improve the signal compared to running long unbalanced cables right now. Are you having any issues with it? I've been reading that some people complain about a high pitch noise coming from the Apogee Duet (not Passport related). If that's the case or you're hearing hum you may want to invest in a Ebtech Hum X. I had issues with hum running a PC on stage sometime ago and that thing got rid of it without any issues.

PD 250. Cable from duet to passport is a 3 footer.

Not really having any issues. I was just taking a stab at a tweak that might somehow improve the signal clarity. I take it that adding a DI box & xlr cable to the chain in order to go from an unbalanced to balanced connection (if that's what it actually does) would not yield a discernable improvement.

Thanks!

Hi,

Yes, in your case DI boxes wouldn't be much of an improvement.

Thanks,
Ken
