I am going to buy a new system within the next day or so. We have mostly fender equipment in our group right now. I wanted to have something portable to use on occasion and i wanted to stick with fender.

I wanted to get the 500 pro but i keep hearing or reading that the output is not what it should be.

Hi RC,

Well if you're referring to the same review the one person left on musiciansfriend.com, amazon, sweetwater etc., I can tell you that the test he did was invalid. He set his PD-250 and 500 Pro channel input to 25% and the master to 50% completely neglecting the fact that the gain structures and potentiometer tapers are completely different between these units. He should have measure the SPL at 1W at 1m on axis of both units and he would have been able to see how loud both units are at full power. Anyway... :)

Also, if you are planning to plug in an electric guitar or some acoustic guitars directly into the Line input the 500 Pro line level input pre-amp may not have enough gain because it is a line level input and not made for low level signals like an electric guitar. If you have anything that has line level outputs it will be fine. Also, plugging a guitar directly into the Passport can be easily overcome by using a DI box going into the mic input channel. That way you won't have an impedance mismatch either and the guitars won't sound dull and muddy.

With that being said, some of our Fender guys who are playing in Rock bands including an Alice Cooper cover band have told me that the 500 Pro is plenty loud.

Of course I don't know how loud you guys play and if the 500 Pro will be loud enough for you, but I wanted to clarify some of the reviews online that are not quite accurate.

I realize I am slightly biased but I hope this helps you somewhat!

Thanks,
Ken
