I just got the pd150. I want to plug my electric guitar and my drum machine at the same time. Does the guitar go into the #3 outlet and the drum machine into the #2 outlet or does it matter if I use 1 2 or 3. The guitar and the drum machine both use 1/4 inch plugs.

You got a PD-150 or a 150 Pro? Just confirming. If you have a 150 Pro plug the drum machine into one of the stereo channels 3 or 4 and plug the guitar using a DI box into channel 1 or 2.

A PD-150 you can use either channel too, but you should probably use the stereo channel for the drum machine and one of the mono channels using a DI box for the guitar.

Hope this helps!

Ken

Hi Patt,

A DI box basically does two things, it changes an unbalanced signal to a balanced signal and converts a high impedance signal into a low impedance signal.

Let me explain, a guitar in general is a low level high impedance signal. The Passport has line inputs which are meant to be used for plugging in outputs of a pre-amp like a bass pre-amp or a guitar pre-amp or something like that. If you plug a guitar straight into a line input, i.e. most mixers out there, you may run into your guitar sounding muddy and dull and life-less. This is because of the impedance mismatch. A DI box, you can get them at any music retailer starting at like $30 or so will make your guitar sound a lot cleaner than plugging it directly into the Passport. Again, that's because the Passports are line inputs like you would plug your drum machine in or other devices that have line level outputs.

I hope this helps and I didn't confuse you too much! :) If you have any questions feel free to ask away. Also, sorry if it takes me a little while to answer sometimes because I am only able to check the Passport forum once in a while due to me having to actually work on projects. :)

Talk soon,
Ken
