I have an older passport 150 with a DC-DC converter that I have been using for about 4 years. The DC-DC converter quit working so instead of trying to find another one, I figured I would just get a regular power inverter. My question is, what size should I get for this 150 Watt unit?

Thanks!!

Safest bet would be to bring it to your local electronic store and ask them. These voltage stuff can be quite sensitive.

Sorry guys for missing this one earlier. I can't always check the forum and am doing this more or less in my "spare time".

Anyway, your Passport unit should have input power requirements on the back panel. Let's say it says 300W input power (I don't know since I don't have a P-150 here), I would choose a power inverter that is at least that but of course to be on the safe side go with a power inverter that is greater than the max required input power of you Passport system.

Now in terms of choosing a battery, you will have to look at the amp hours (Ah), the greater the amp hours (Ah) of the battery the longer the unit will last.

Unfortunately, due to legal reasons I can't give you exact specs but I hope this was somewhat helpful.

Thanks,
Ken

To answer several questions here.

I use a 600w pure sine-wave inverter with a 1200w peak output and it works perfectly. The PD/PRO150's PC is 220W so 600w more then covers you. Make sure you get a pure sine-wave inverter though or you are likely to encounter noise and hum!

Your best bet for a battery would be a sealed lead acid type of around 48AH and try and get the cyclic deep discharge variety, Europa, Yuasa, Camden etc. I use Camden batts and find them to be very reliable and long lasting. You will get a good 6 hours plus from a 12 hour charge, dependant of course on whether you are running FX of it as well.

If anyone is interested I have a spare DC/DC converter;-)

Andy
