Ken, thanks for your quick response. Can I trouble you for some more of your vast knowledge? :)

1. Let's say I stick a 16 Gb USB flash drive into the 500 PRO and I start recording and forget to press stop. Will the 500 PRO stop recording at some point? I know there is a 4Gb file size limit on FAT32 so I'm assuming the unit will have to do something when the WAV gets that big.

2. Oh, and has the unit been tested with a 16 Gb drive? Is there an upper limit on size of the USB flash drive that the 500 PRO recognizes?

3. When creating the recording (WAV file), does the 500 PRO have an internal clock so when it creates the file on the USB stick it has the correct date/time as the "created" or "modified" date on the file? The reason I ask is that we would record multiple services at our church and it would be handy to know which track is for which service.

Thanks so much for your time! I'm picking up the 500 PRO this week and am so excited!!

Wow, lots of different questions. :)

@ alandkaty
In regards to the electric mandolin, this can vary a lot depending on what pick up you're using. I think a lot of it may have to do with speaker placement and the room and how loud you're playing. There's nothing in particular that's caused by the 500 Pro. Try placing the speakers differently.

@bobwfritz
Can you do me a favor and email your email address to tsl@fender.com. Tell them to foward your email to me and that it's in regards to Passport questions.

@digirira
It's recording the combined mixer channels at the stereo output into a .wav file.

Thanks,
Ken

Thanks for the information on the USB drive. Is that the format to use when labeling the songs?

Hi Cathy,

Not quite sure I understand your question correctly, but the 500 Pro will automatically name every recorded track. The naming convention of the 500 Pro is as follows: Track 1 will be named "500Pro Track1.wav", track 2 "500Pro Track 2.wav" and so on.

The 500 Pro will read mp3 and .wav files in alphanumeric order. This means that numbers have precedence over letters.

Hope this helps.

Ken

used the passport 500 pro 1st time at an outdoor venue seemed to have good sound and volume for a small outdoor, didn't push it to peak but----used an 8gig thumb drive to record by set. I had previously formatted the drive on the passport assuming (I know) that it would be properly prepared to record. Set the record function on each set and only got 4 seconds of the first set. What? also when syncing from my desktop out of 6 songs all wav files only two will play back read the inst. any suggestions?

Hi,

Hmm, I have a few questions. What brand flash drive was it that you used? Also, you said you've formatted the flash drive using the Passport so I am assuming it was correctly formatted using FAT32. The flash drive doesn't have any encrypted partition or something like that does it?

How long was each set that you had recorded (sorry btw that you've lost them)?

Also, are you saying you recorded 6 files total and your computer is only playing back 2 or are you saying that you put 6 .wav files on the flash drive and the Passport is only playing back two of them? If it is the Passport that isn't playing back all files then can you verify that your files are all 16bit and not 24bit and what sample rate are the files at?

Maybe you could upload the files somewhere for me to download and check out when I get back in the office on Monday.

Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience!

Ken
