Yesterday I tried out the new Passport Pro 500. It sounds great and you can't beat the portability, but I question whether it is truly 500 watts. It sounds more like 200 watts. Anyone else out there thinking the same way I am?

Ok, but if you watch any of the videos from the NAMM show the reps are hawking this thing as 500 watts when it really is not a true 500 watts. This is misleading, agreed?

How likely are you only going to be using one channel?

Listen. Just go and test one out and then get back to me. This is not my first rodeo. You'll see.

Hi Pady,

My name is Ken Porter and I am the design engineer for the Passport Pro series. From time to time I will stop by and answer some questions should they arise.

To answer your question, yes the Passport 500 Pro is 250W @ 1% THD+N per channel into 4 Ohms.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Ken

Ken,
So 250 watts goes to each side?

Hi Pady,

Yes, that is correct. 250W goes to each side or channel (into 4 Ohms), making it 500W total since it is a stereo unit.

Thanks,
Ken
