Hello,

I am considering a purcof a Fender Venue Passport system. Can I plug my amps and effect loops into the system using the personal amps as monitors?

You can use an instrument cable (not a speaker cable) to connect your line out port on your amp to any 1/4" jack for an input channel for the Passport. If the volume range seems either extremely hot or extremely quiet, the Pad button should fix that. The amps work fine as monitors, with one caution:

If you put the amps on the floor and aim them forward, toward the crowd, then most of the sound is aimed at the back of your knees and you won't hear it well, but it's aimed at the crowd's face, so they will hear loud and clear from your amps. Whoever is mixing sound on the Passport will then have to try to find some way to balance out the sound coming from the Passport, which is competing with the amps. This is suboptimal.

It's better to prop up and/or tilt the amps to aim the amps at YOUR face, aimed AWAY from the crowd, if you want to use them as monitors. Then whoever is mixing sound on the Passport can just do their job and life stays simple.

Also, if you find that the amp's line out doesn't have the tone that you like from the amp's speaker (this is not usually the case, but with some amps, it happens), then you might consider using a microphone aimed at the amp to go to the Passport instead of the line out.

Experiment. This is your sound, right? The more you listen, the more you can tweak to get it just like you want it.
