Does anyone know if adding a Bluetooth dongle to the USB port on this would allow Bluetooth access from an iPad? Thanks in advance.

Keep in mind that USB is just an interface. The device it is part of needs software to know what to do with it. The software on the Passport is expecting the device plugged into USB to be a thumb drive. It can record to the thumb drive and it can play from the thumb drive, because it knows how to write to, or read from a thumb drive as if it were a disk drive.

An iPad is not a thumb drive. Think about times when you pick up a phone and call a fax machine. The phone is like the USB port. Just because you and the fax machine can both use a phone, that doesn't mean you can communicate with each other directly. Just because a thumb drive and an iPad can both use a USB port, that doesn't mean that the iPad and the thumb drive will work interchangeably in the USB port of the Passport.

You should instead use a patch cord to connect the headphone jack on the iPad with a 1/8" stereo jack in one of the stereo channels of the Passport. If you get the volume levels set well at both ends, it should work well. Set the iPad at 60%-80% of its max output and then adjust the input level on the Passport so that it's not loud enough to distort, and not quiet enough to hum or hiss, (so the volume indicator is green with brief visits into amber, but never turns red), then adjust the master volume on the passport so the sound is as loud or quiet as you want it.
