Hi I like some help I'm a drummer at my church youth and the church youth uses a the Passport p250 and i like to do a in ear monitoring system. I have tried spitting one of the speakers so that i could have headphones on and have a click track going as well but the device that i used for click tracks (my phone and computer) my phone's headphone jack got blown by this and my computer got half way blown. Is there any way to have a better way to do a in ear system.

Thank you for the help

No you cannot power an in ear system and speakers both at the same time as you have found out with disastrous results. You are fortunate that you didn't blow out the Passport's power section. Now that you've learned what not to do, learn the right way to do things. Always consult the owners manual. It's very easy. Look up and download the owners manual for the Passport 250 right here at Fender.com Look on page 13. On the back panel there is an AUX send. Use this to send the mix to an external amp for your in ear system. Alternatively, you could also use the tape send.

linin is totally right. I'll add my usual education stuff about signal strength. There are three common signal strengths used in sound equipment:

Mic level: This is the volume level generated by a dynamic microphone. It's a tiny current of electricity formed by a tiny, simple generator in one of these microphones.

Line level: Maybe 20 or so times louder than mic level, this is what comes out of a "mic pre-amp" or a synthesizer, or a radio tuner, or pretty much every electronic sound source, except for a microphone. Line level signals go into a mixer, which fine tunes the volume and EQ levels of all the inputs, maybe adds some reverb, etc. and then it comes out at line level at ports typically marked "Line Out" or "Aux Out". Your headphones are driven by a signal that is in the same neighborhood as line level.

Speaker output: This signal is often hundreds or thousands of times stronger than line level. This is the output of a "power amplifier". A typical power amplifier takes line level input and makes it strong enough to drive home stereo speakers, or even stadium speaker arrays, at anywhere from 15 watts (for a tiny practice amp for an electric guitar) to tens of thousands of watts (for a rock band at a colosseum), depending on the installation.

Speaker output is for passive speakers only. It will definitely fry any line level input device in a heartbeat. All it takes is one kick drum beat and poof: Tiny wires burn like a fuse. And, if they short out instead of burning out, they take the power amp with it. Sounds like yours acted like a fuse. I hope you weren't wearing the headphones when it happened.

I've worn ear buds from one sound source with over-the-ear headphones for the other sound source for applications similar to what you describe.
