As much as I hate to get to get rid of the Passport just doesn't cut through the mix in a noisy environment .Playing to a 100 - 150 in a sit down quiet audience is one thing but a noisy bar is an other and the 500 is not up to it even in a 75 to 100 seater bar .Tried cranking up the highs ,tried and bought the matched Sub woofer and I decided to get some thing else .Making phone calls and reading I'm being steered to the Bose L1 and if I do i' m gonna get 2 of them .But we'll see cause my friend has one and were gonna set up side by side and compare .

If you are looking at the Bose, look at the Fender Expo while you are at it. Get a side-by-side comparison, if possible. Buzz is it's better bass than the cheaper Bose and a lot less expensive than the more expensive Bose.

It's not a mixer. It's just a speaker, but you can get a small, line-level mixer with the Expo and likely be happy.

I have two. They have a very good throw, carrying distance without being too loud up close, though I do recommend putting them up on a platform a foot or so higher than your audience's head, if possible, because the single tweeter in each tower gets really loud up close. Mid-range speakers are in an array, but the tweeter is not.

You don't have to start out preferring the Fender Expo. Just compare it. You could save money and have some great speakers.

I was hoping you were going to answer Contra .Coming from you and being partial to Fender I called my friend who owned a large music srore and got bought out by St Johns Music and works there cause he's bored and told me to bring every thing in to try out side by side .Gonna still compare with my friends Bose but will let you know the outcome, he said he'll let me trade it all in .Thanks

Well I had a real good day comparing and saving 2,500 bucks .We set up side by side in our buddy's shop 60 feet by 50 feet and about 25 feet high And all metal, very clean shop -like a house - and good acoustics, not like a bingo hall where everything bounces. It was all in the settings .About 10 people were there and 2 musicians .Cranked up the high knob to 4 o'clock ,brought the tone knob down to 12 o'clock . For the sub ,cranked the sub volume to 3 o'clock and the freq knob to 3 o'clock and that 500 which is now 750 watts with the sub came to life big time, so no one now is gonna tell me the Bose L1 compact is gonna walk over the Passport ,cause we compared both in every which way, and all that were there all came to the conclusion that there would be no advantage switching over .
